The Nokia PureView 808

The Nokia PureView 808 is making waves, with the manufacturers claiming that it should be considered a breakthrough in photography.

The cameraphone features a 41 megapixel sensor, a f2.4 Carl Zeiss lens and four-inch touch screen, making it an attractive package.

Nokia uses ‘pixel binning’ technology to distil seven pixels into one to create a super-detailed five-megapixel shot in default mode. It collects data from multiple pixels to produce one ‘super pixel’. Nokia claims that this technique helps to filter away noise from your shots.

The sensor measures 1/1.2 inches in size – that’s two and a half times bigger than the iPhone 4s sensor and produces images between 9MB and 13MB. The bonus of such a huge megapixel count is that the digital zoom becomes a useful feature. With such a high-resolution image, you can zoom in up to 3x without losing any detail.
