Process your shots
When opting to edit RAW file formats in
Photoshop, the Camera Raw dialog box will automatically open. Featuring of the
essential adjustment tools, you can use the program to correct problems such as
white balance, exposure, image sharpness and framing crop. You even have the
option to adjust specific colour hues and add in a gradient.
In this six-step tutorial, we are going to
outline all the essential tools and show you how to edit images in Camera Raw.
Follow along with your own RAW files and discover how to edit more efficiently,
leaving all the complex adjustments and features to Photoshop.
1. Straighten up

To begin, select the Straighten tool along
the top bar. Easy to use if you’re editing a landscape with a horizon line, you
can place a point down at one end and then drag it along down to the other.
Once the crop select box appears, click enter to straighten your shot.
2. Correct white balance

You can either adjust the Temperature and
Tint sliders manually, or alternatively select the White Balance Eyedropper
tool along the top bar. Select an area of your image that would ordinarily be
grey, Camera Raw will then adjust the colour tones accordingly.
3. Contrasting with Curves

Select the Tone Curve tab on the adjustment
bar. Your image histogram should appear in the dialog box. You can then adjust
the sliders in the Parametric option to enhance contrast or select a point and
make manual adjustments to your histogram
4. Sharpening

You can sharpen your shot by selecting the
Detail tab. In the same way you would use the Unsharp mask too in Photoshop,
increase the amount slider to 100 and then slowly bring up the radius slider.
This will increase the sharpness across the entire image.
