“Digital cinematography is the way forward
for filmmakers today as we see more and more movies shot partly or fully in
digital, completely changing the way moviegoers experience motion pictures. In
light of this development and backed by a firm understanding of the needs of
cinematographers, Canon believes an all-new interchangeable-lens digital video
camcorder that combines exceptional imaging performance that combines
exceptional imaging performance with outstanding mobility and expandability is
required. Indeed, it must be able to meet the demanding production needs of today's
motion picture industry,” says Melvyn Ho, President and CEO of Canon Marketing
(Malaysia).
Canon's
4K capable DSLR, the EOS-1DC can capture 4K (4096 x 2160 pixel) video at up to
24p without downscaling, from an APS-H crop of its 18MP full-frame sensor
Ho believes that the new C500 and 1DC will
further expand the possibilities of visual expression and drive forward the
development of cinematic culture, especially in the growing movie industry in
Asia.
“In line with our ‘leave no story untold’
philosophy behind the Canon Cinema EOS Cameras, we believe that the C500 and 1DC
come at the perfect timing to meet the new standard of 4K resolution
recording,” he adds.

Besides being able to record at 4K
resolution, the C500 also supports Canon’s diverse line-up of interchangeable
EF lenses and EF Cinema Lenses. The PL variant of the C500 uses a PL lens
mount, making it compatible with industry-standard PL lenses. This further
expands the versatility of the C500 and ensures its usability among many movie
studios.
As for the 1DC, it comes equipped with the
Canon Log Gamma, which works to minimize both shadow-detail loss and
highlight-detail loss while providing a high level of color-grading freedom. In
addition, the 1DC features a sensitivity ISO range of 100-51200, ensuring that
outstanding still-image results. Canon claims that noise levels at such high
ISO range is reduced significantly on the 1DC when shooting in dimly lit
settings as it is fitted with the Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors.
