Best in class gaming performance comes with
a massive pricetag
Alienware’s hulking M17x is a sight to
behold. With a physique illuminated by the multi-coloured AlienFX LED light
array, this laptop is a beast.

M17X
Weighing in at 4.37kg, and a portly 5.4kg
with the brick-sized charger, lugging the Alienware M17x to and fro is a real
workout. Bear in mind that you’ll need to carry that hefty charger everywhere,
too, since the large 7860mAh battery runs dry in just over three hours of light
use.
Fire up a game and this giant is in its
element. The quad-core processor and top- end AMD Radeon HD 7970M GPU (the
fastest mobile GPU on the market at the time of writing) scythed through our
Crysis tests, even at Full HD resolution and maximum detail, and the large
exhaust fans at the rear help the M17x to keep cool under duress.

Gaming on the Alienware is an audiovisual
treat. The display’s glossy finish is highly reflective, but the Full HD panel
delivers ample brightness, superb contrast and vibrant colour reproduction.
Meanwhile, the built in Klipsch speakers are unusually refined, delivering
loud, crisp audio.
The top-end graphical performance and
bulletproof build quality come at a hefty price, but fear not - dump expensive
luxuries such as the SSD and it's possible to buy an M17x for much less cash.
