Health & Fitness

With smartphones you're already carrying a PC in your pocket. Now check out these computers you can wear.

Fitbit Aria

When it comes to health, one of the most important metrics is body weight, and the Fitbit Aria is the smart way to measure it. Using a set of ITO electrodes to measure your body’s impedance, this device not only gives your weight but can also measure your body’s lean versus fat composition. Furthermore, it can hook up to your wireless network and push the information to your Fitbit account.

Google Contact Lens

The Google X lab recently announced a smart contact lens with tens of thousands of miniaturized transistors. Apparently, these contact lenses will be able to measure a user’s glucose levels by testing their tears. The lens will also be fitted with a hair-thin antenna which will allow the information to be transmitted to a handheld device, warning diabetic users when their glucose levels go too high.

Description:

Wearable devices are already making technology much more intimate than
once seemed possible, but Google has kicked it up to a whole new level.

Sony Fitness Core

Sony’s Core fitness tracker will be able to measure and record the usual fitness metrics such as steps taken, distance covered and calories burned throughout the day. But what gives the Core an edge over its competition is the accompanying Lifelog application, which will display other info such as weather, mapped routes and even photographs in a journal.

Description:

Sony's SmartBand, the first product powered by the company's new Core fitness tracker,
will be released worldwide in March.

Rooms & Living Spaces

Even the furniture in your house will one day come with a processor and built-in Wi-Fi.

Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat shows how even the most unglamorous and unassuming of tech appliances in the home can make a huge, positive impact after being smartened up. At installation, the Nest Learning Thermostat functions like any other. But as users keep manually adjusting the temperature settings, the Nest Learning Thermostat picks up on the patterns of usage and eventually will be able to regulate the temperature for you on its own.

Description:

Most people leave the house at one temperature and forget to change it. So the Nest Learning Thermostat learns your schedule, programs itself and can be controlled from your phone.

Sleep Number X12 Mattress

The Sleep Number X12 Mattress includes air chambers that can be modified to adjust the firmness of the mattress according to the user’s preferences. It also features a number of sensors that can measure a user’s breathing rate, movement and average heart rate as they sleep. This data is used to calculate your sleep patterns and the mattress is able to provide you with suggestions on how to improve your sleep.
