Corsair AX And Corsair Axi Power Supplies – Big Difference In Small Letter (Part 3)

Corsair AX 760i and 860i

The latter package inherits the same style with the previous model, except for some minor difference (the inside box is painted black, for example).

The additional accessories include a Corsair Link adapter and a piece of paper on which there is a web link that you can download the Corsair Link software and a soft PSU bag. Otherwise, the similar accessories like what you get for the AX series that we discussed above.

External design

Its outlook is the same as the Corsair TX650 model

The Axi series is visually different from the AX series. Its outlook is the same as the Corsair TX650 model (except for the all-modular connection). The paint color is less sparkle on the AX series’ PSU described above.

Compared to the models in the AX series discussed above, there are even less differences in the internal design between the AX 760i and 860i (the upper picture shows the 760W model and the other shows the 860W model).

PSU Axi owns a highlight LLC resonant converter

PSU Axi owns a highlight LLC resonant converter

Just like the AX series, PSU Axi owns a highlight LLC resonant converter and thanks to the DC-DC converters that the +3.3V and +5V voltage are created.

The DC-DC converters

The DC-DC converters

A DC-DC converter can be found near the side panel of the case, behind a sub-card with Corsair Link logic. Other things are laid between the all-modular connection panel and +12V circuit.

The Corsair Link allows adjusting some PSU’s parameters

The Corsair Link allows adjusting some PSU’s parameters

Corsair considers the Axi series as the “digital” PSUs as the Corsair Link allows adjusting some PSU’s parameters.

The power connection is not carefully reviewed like that in Seasonic’s PSU. We were worried that this would be showed in the test of the voltage output ripple.

The PSU has some non-solid capacitors inside but the components that we can see here are originated from many different manufacturers. The pictures show the Rubycons and CapXons whereas the giant input capacitor is made by Panasonic. We can also see some Nichicon capacitors inside this PSU.

Cables and connections

The all-modular AX760i and 860i have following connections:

·         One connector for a mainboard power cable

·         Six connectors for CPU and PCIe power cables

·         Six connectors for peripheral power cables

·         Comm Port for Corsair Link adapter

Each model is accompanied by a set of discrete cables:

·         One mainboard power cable with a 20+4-pin connector (61 cm)

·         Two CPU power cables with 4+4-pin connectors (65 cm)

·         Two graphics card cables with two 6+2-pin connectors on each (60+15 cm)

·         Two graphics card cables with one 6+2-pin connector on each (60 cm)

·         Two cables with four PATA power connectors on each (45+10+10+10 cm)

·         Two cables with four SATA power connectors on each (40+10+10+10 cm)

·         One cable with four SATA power connectors (55+10+10+10 cm)

·         Two adapters from a PATA power connector to a floppy-drive plug (10 cm)

·         Corsair Link cable (80 cm)

In fact, the set of cables is just alike what you get for the AX760 and AX860 together with a Corsair Link cable in addition. The only thing that we can add is that a modular connection for the peripheral cable will be left empty as there are just five SATA/PATA power cables in the box while the PSU provides six of such connectors.

These specs seem to be similar to that of the AX series which has the same wattage, except for a minor increase in the load-capacity of the +12V rail – just by 0.3 to 0.6 A. This must be implemented in order to emphasize on the higher position of the “digital” PSU among the Corsair’s products. It does not have any practical meaning as the contemporary computer needs from 30 to 40W from the 3.3V and +5V rails anyways.

Just like the above-discussed AX series, Axi is certified by the 80 PLUS Platinum standard and comes with a 7-year warranty.
