Logitech Z553 Speaker System - The Final Frontier

4/10/2013 9:07:07 AM

Style is something that we don’t get to talk about properly here. Yes, there’s the odd mention when dealing with smart phones or tablets but it all ends up being the same. Getting to play around with this on the other hand brought an endless amount of good fun.

The Speaker System features two satellites and a down-firing subwoofer, offering 40 watts (RMS) of power for an immersive sound that elevates your favorite entertainment.

The final frontier

The first thing to note about the Z553 sound system is the bright orange cables - high quality cables at that. A sense of danger is evoked when dealing with them. It is as if you’re setting up an explosive device. This is very cool. Thematically, the entire system is a bunch of jet black cylinders that stack together on a stand. Visually, it works well. It ends up looking like laser turrets right out of a sci-fi movie; the central tower of a subwoofer certainly helps this imagery. Don’t be surprised if they end up as props in a low budget picture.

An RCA jack and two 3.5mm auxiliary inputs let you easily connect up to three devices at the same time — PCs or Macs, music and DVD players, TVs and game consoles, smartphones and more.

In space

They say that in space, no one can hear your scream, which would be a waste for this system. I made the mistake of hooking the Z553 up to a designer’s computer. This transformed our office into an oddly themed club. Dubstep was the name of the almost random buzzing and thumping that filled the silence, yet the Logitech system faithfully produced each note accurately. Even my usual aversion to this form of ‘music’ was slightly dampened. Besides that, there was also the traditional Rock Jiwang, which sounds every bit as tortured as the artiste’s song writing (and my hearing). In the end, I decided that the Logitech was good enough that I could overlook the awakening of the Lord of Madness.
