Sonic Gear SonicBlue Rugby

4/23/2013 11:48:59 AM

Coming from the other side of the world, not many know about rugby. But thanks to the wonders of television, we know what it is: a sport that make others look wimpy and where one needs to be strong to survive a tackle. Why am I blabbering about sports? That’s because Sonic Gear sent us a speaker called Sonic Blue Rugby. Let see if the name fits the sport.

Sonic Gear SonicBlue Rugby

Obvious looks

One look at it and I can tell why the guys from Sonic Gear included the word ‘Rugby’. The design is the embodiment of a rugby ball. The cylinder shape and the size are pretty close to one. Of course, you don’t throw it around. Right at the center are the buttons to operate the speaker with buttons like power, play/pause, volume and input modes. At the back is where the power plug and other inputs rest. Because of the familiar design, I am instantly used to looking at it.

Sound bar none

As for the sound quality, it is surprisingly good. Music is clear and crisp even as I max out the volume. On the other hand, its bass is lacking. I can hear it but I can’t feel the thump at all. The SonicBlue Rugby seems to be a personal device only because as my colleagues stand just a very short distance away from the speaker, they can barely feel any of its output quality. Use it in a small room and there will be no problem. Sad to say, I cannot do much about the Bluetooth connectivity. Even though I pair the devices, it refuses to play. There may be some problem with our review unit.
