The control of all cables can be very tiring especially if they are hard to bend into position. It will be worse if you mount TV with the wall, you can have no place to plug them. The smart cable HDMI of Lindy can rotate in any direction, they are easy to fit in the narrow space.

The adjustable connectors are also ideal for HDMI ports that arranged weirdly. If you find the location of TV’s ports makes HDMI cable to protrude at strange angles, these connections can help you route the cables to the place that you want.

The connectors are compliant with 1.4a HDMI standard, so they will work with the source and 3D TV, and are available with a length of 1m, 2m, 3m and 5m, prices are respectively $31, $39, $47 and $78. They are good value and very helpful.

Price: $1700 (TV) ; $310 (speakers)

www.directtvs.co.uk

Monolithic Design TV Series of Sony is one of the most attractive TV we’ve seen, but the NX723 can be more attractive by adding an adequate speaker (speaker bar), which is also the stand ($310). Sony also produces 40in (KDL-40NX723) and 55in (KDL-55NX723) models, both are compatible with the speakers stand and priced respectively $1240 and $3255.

Lack of beveled face of speakers makes this TV seem larger than 46in TV. When turning off, the edge-to-edge mirror looks very impressive. When turning on, the border is still small, helps you not be distracted from the action on screen.

Despite the incredible thin appearance, it has 4 HDMI ports, VGA, component, composite and SCART for video and analogue RCA, digital optics and inputs for audio 3.5mm. Common Interface slot allows you to register television services, and 2 USB ports can be used for PVR devices or multimedia playing from external storage. It played most of our test files, but DivX and XviD video have refused to load. NX723 is ideal if you like to transfer multimedia files from a DLNA media server or PC. You can use the Ethernet port to run 1 cable from router, or built-in Wi-Fi adapter for wireless connection. Wi-Fi adapter also provides access to the connected TV services of Sony. We hoped the comprehensive internet TV system from Sony and NX723 will not disappoint you. It provides catch-up TV from BBC iPlayer and Demand Five, movies for rent from Lovefilm and own Video Unlimited Services of Sony, social network and even web browser. It does not support Flash, so you can not use the websites as 4oD, but it's still useful.

If you prefer live TV, you will please to know that NX723 can handle HD footage and has good standard definition. Noises and compression artefacts are kept in minimal and we can identify face details on low bandwidth channels such as BBC News. In high definition, super sharp images and vibrant colors are at default settings. Black is also very good, with minimal leakage from the LCD lights that are illuminated at the edge (edge-lit), although the very dark picture seems grey.

All Sony TV, including the NX723, using active glasses (active) for 3D, but the TV does not provide it, you have to buy it separately for around $78/ a glasses at www.amazon.co.uk. Depth effects are convincing in our tests, though we still have some matte problems with the screen, a side effect of 3D glasses. We like passive3D (passive) for its more vibrant colors, whether passive TV has lower resolution while watching 3D because of alternate techniques.

As expected, the speaker base is in a different class than integrated speakers on most TV. 4 internal speakers create clear mid-range and exactly high, fresh pitch, while the back tiny subwoofer speakers create a powerful bass. If space is limited, just a few compact speaker systems can compete with SU-46NX1 speaker. However, if you spend more than $ 1550 for TV, you will definitely want to connect to surround sound system.

If you are looking for a central ornament in the living room, very little TV can compete with the NX723. It looks even more beautiful when combined with the speaker base, besides, the non-existent screen bezel and vivid LED picture quality makes it stand out in any room. However, speakers can not compare with the sound quality of the 5.1 system, especially movie, so you can save hundreds of dollars by selecting a plasma TV like the Panasonic Viera TX-P46GT30B and separate speakers. Panasonic TV may not be as beautiful as Sony but they have advantages in image quality.
