Physically, RNX-1 N600UBE looks like a half-inch thick credit card. The antenna installation increases its size a bit, but RNX-N600UBE create a sturdy platform; flat surface makes you easy to set the adapter on the desk or PC. We also like that Rosewill offers a 5-foot USB cable, so you have more length to arrange the cable behind the desk or to a place where the wireless adapter will receive signal.

In support, RNX-N600UBE works with all legacy and present security standards, including WEP (64/128-bit), WPA/WPA2, and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. It also has compatibility with CCX5.0 (Cisco Compatible Extensions 5.0) of Cisco, which is a certification meet many standards, the security options, the setting of mobility, QoS controls, and performance measurement. For your convenience, Rosewill includes a WPS button (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) provides you push-button setup (assuming your router is also compatible with WPS), so there is no need to manually configure the wireless adapter.

In case your router does not support WPS, Rosewill includes Ralink Wireless LAN utility that you can use to identify the wireless networks and configure the manual network settings. Software detailed general LAN information, such as signal strength, 802.11 wireless standard, and encryption (if any).

To check RNX-N600UBE, we plugged it into a laptop and connected to a wireless home network, which has TEW-692GR dual-band router of Trendnet. To test the speed, we used SiSoftware's Sandra 2012 Wireless (WLAN/WWAN test). Wi-Fi could be affected by the location and distance, so we moved laptop to several different places at home.

As you expected, speed is the best when wireless adapter is placed near the router (within 10 feet), because we saw a maximum speed of 65Mbps for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The speed dropped to about 40Mbps when up one floor, and when up two floors, the speed dropped to 25Mbps.

Those are looking for cheap wireless adapter can swap between computers will prefer the flexibility and quality reception of RNX-N600UBE. Dual-band capability is also good for those with multiple PCs and wireless devices, where the 2.4GHz band can be noisy.
