Portrait | 1/60 sec | f/4.0 | 10.3 mm | ISO 250
Landscape | 1/640 sec | f/4.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 80
Low Light | 1/13 sec | f/4.5 | 17.7 mm | ISO 800
Pet Portrait | 1/250 sec | f/4.5 | 17.1 mm | ISO 200
Background Defocus | 1/30 sec | f/3.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 160
Magnifying Glass Plus | 1/25 sec | f/4.8 | 10.9 mm | ISO 80
Underwater
| 1/4 sec | f/3.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 800
Miniature | 1/500 sec | f/4.5 | 17.7 mm | ISO 80
The images have good exposure and excellent
color reproduction. Good skin tones can be seen in portraits, although when
flash is used, the red-eye effect is showed. Underwater performances are good,
and the Magnifying Glass Plus makes it possible to shoot some gorgeous close-up
shots. The background defocus mode takes two pictures to produce a DSRL-style
photo which is taken with wide-aperture.

Wide Angle | 1/800 sec | f/4.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 80
Full Optical Zoom | 1/500 sec | f/5.6 | 23.5 mm | ISO 80
Clear Image Zoom | 1/500 sec | f/5.6 | 23.5 mm | ISO 80
Macro | 1/50 sec | f/3.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 80
The detail level is OK at both ends of the
lens and the purple fringing is well controlled. The image quality reduces when
Clear Image Zoom is used, but there would be no problem for sharing on website.
The lens’s minimum focus length is 1cm, which allows you to have magnificent
close-up shots.
ISO
test images
Shots
with different ISO levels
At ISO 80, 100, 200 and 400, the noise
levels are low. Some details are lost when ISO reaches 800, making the photos
softer, and this is even worse when at ISO 1600. Image quality reduces
seriously at ISO 3200 with steady decrease at ISO 6400 and ISO 12800. These two
highest settings should better be avoided if possible.

AWB-
tungsten preset
Fluorescent
presets
Under tungsten light AWB performs well with
slight color cast when tungsten presets are used. AWB once again does a good
job under the fluorescent light with all three fluorescent presets.
Panorama 1 | 1/500 sec | f/4.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 80
Panorama 2 | 1/400 sec | f/4.5 | 4.7 mm | ISO 80
Panorama photos have good detail level and
are well stitched together.

Values
The price of the Sony Cybershot DSC-TX30 is
$449. Other water-proof cameras are Pentax WG-3 at $458, Panasonic Lumix
DMC-FT5, which costs $443, Nikon Coolpix AW110, whose price is $405, Canon
Powershot D20 available for $390. To have further understanding about
water-proof cameras, have a look at “Top 10 Best Waterproof Cameras”.
A memory card and a bag or case would also
be needed to keep your camera safe and protected – visit our Full guide about
camera’s cases.
Verdicts
All camera producers manufacture
water-proof camera, but those from Sony usually stand out as they have regular
look rather than some available tough models. This, however, does not means
that the TX30 is not durable – it is waterproof up to 10m as well as dustproof,
shockproof and freeze proof. Alongside with the fashionable outlook, the
touchscreen fills the backside of the camera that there is no place for any
physical button except for those on the front side.
Good image quality and the Magnifying Glass
Plus really leave huge impression. It might be very hard to focus precisely,
but just by practicing, gorgeous shots would be likely. The TX30 gets the full
resolution at 10 fps.
