Keep your wallet in check with the ASUS U32U
The need for notebooks and laptops these
days is growing rapidly, and yet even with all the new Ultrabooks coming out of
the woodworks, the prices for notebooks have hardly shifted down at all. Until
today that is, with the release of the new ASUS U32U notebook.
The U32U looks just like any other ASUS
U-series notebook you can find out there. The brushed aluminium finish feels
just as nice as the other notebooks and the chassis itself has a very solid
feel to it, with no flimsy parts whatsoever.
The 13.3-inch LED backlit display outputs
at 1366 x 768, giving it a crisp display and brightness that is quite pleasant
to the eyes even in places with natural lighting. The AMD E-4 Fusion APU
resides in the U32U, powering the machine with it's 1.65GHz dual core CPU and
Radeon HD6320 graphics chipset.
As for connectivity, the U32U features two
USB 3.0 ports, a LAN port and an SD card reader. On the left side is a VGA
port, a HDMI port and one extra USB 2.0 port.
Performance-wise, the ASUS U32U isn't the
fastest computing worker around, but it is capable of decoding 1080p H.264
videos with relative ease, and no stuttering whatsoever. Recent games such as
Starcraft 2 and Modern Warfare play relatively well on medium settings. For a
sub RM2,000 notebook, we'd say that this is not bad at all.
The keyboard and trackpad are also
excellent here, with both key travel and touch sensitivity being top notch. The
battery life for the U32U is rated to be at about 10 hours, and from ourtests,
with WiFi turned on and brightness set to medium, we've managed to get a good 9
hours out of the battery on a full charge.
Also, thanks to ASUS' awesome design, the
heat is ventilated out through the bottom and sides of the notebook, leaving
the palm rest and keyboard relatively cool even after extensive use.
