Dell C3765DNF - Scores High On Print Speed And Quality

Medium - and large-size businesses would do well to consider Dell's C3765dnf multifunction printer if production speed is a priority.

Although it weighs a chunky 32.6kg, the Dell is relatively compact at 558x439x530mm. Styled in chic black, the only burst of colour comes from its 4.3in LCD touchscreen.

This display is bright and clear, offering separate menus for copy, fax, print and scan modes. There are dedicated buttons for Job Status and Power Saver, plus a full number pad. A USB port below lets you plug in a flash drive to directly print PDF, JPEG and TIFF files.

Plenty of other print options are available: Dell has included a 50-sheet duplex automatic document feeder on the unit's top, concealed a 150-sheet multipurpose feeder behind the drop-down front panel, and placed a 550-sheet paper tray at the bottom. A second paper tray can be added if required.

Round the back of the machine are connectors for phone and power, a USB port and an Ethernet connection. You can also make use of wireless connectivity, but you'll need to separately purchase Dell's Wireless Adaptor plus hard drive kit ($278) to link this printer with your router.

It’s rare for a manufacturer's claimed print speeds to be consistently accurate, but Dell’s estimates of 35 pages per minute (ppm) for both black text and colour documents proved to be spot-on in tests.

The same was true for duplex prints, which hurtled out at the specified 23ppm. Print quality with the C3765dnf was exceptionally high in mono, although colour prints had a distinctly reddish hue.

Description: The four toner cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), which slide in easily from the front, come in three yield sizes: Standard (3,000 pages, $77 black, $151 colour); High Capacity ($124 black, 7,000 pages; $201 colour, 5,000 pages) and Extra High Capacity ($144 black, 11,000 pages; $251 colour, 9,000 pages).

This translates to impressively low running costs, although the base cost of the C3765dnf is considerably more than, say, the HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dw (reviewed at tinyurl.com/bpxzfhb).

Verdict

Dell’s C3765dnf scores high on print speed and quality, but those requiring wireless connectivity will find it an expensive option.
