Corsair Carbide 200R And Thermaltake Chaser A41 - Affordable Cases Of Game Systems (Part 2)

6/28/2013 11:02:35 AM

The front of Carbide 200R is designed simply. It's just a hard plastic (except Power/Reset button and outside compartment disc). Even its screws are a part of the frame. We have to admit that dislocating six plastic locks to remove panel is a little in trouble.

There are not many accessories

There are not many accessories

There are not many accessories: screws, a few single cables, one manual, and a pair of warranty card. It would be too optimistic to expect more.

The interior is painted black

The interior is painted black

The interior is painted black, it seems normal even with products for new users. Cases with a high price from MS lines of Thermaltake that we tested previously were also painted inside.

Unusual position of front fan should be noted - it is on rack of disc drive. Frame provides a large amount of space for your graphics card if they are installed in four slots at the end.

Only expression of cutting cost which we can point here is the shortage of rubber edges on cable hole but it is normal for case of new users.

The disc rack is designed in non-traditional manner

Disc rack is designed in non-traditional manner

Disc rack is designed in non-traditional manner. It includes an area of four 3.5-inch disks integrated quick screws and other areas on it can be used with package of four 2.5-inch disks.

Front fan only cools 2.5-inch area even though 2.5-inch SSD and HDD are not so hot as their 3.5-inch partners, which is the only means to ensure maximum storage capacity.

Front fan only cools 2.5-inch area.

An additional fan can be installed opposite disk rack (or you can change pre-installed fan to here). This fan will be on the outside of frame, under the front decorative board, so there may be a problem with air inhale, but there is a small gap between front blank panel and fan.

Disk rack has a small vent opposite fan

Disk rack has a small vent opposite fan

The effect of front fan is also doubted, because drive rack has a very small vent opposite fan. Entire rack is supported by this board, so it should have fewer vents to be hard.

Density in disk rack

Density in disk rack

Device is packaged with high density in disk drive, which is a negative factor when indicating performance of fan that you install opposite them.

Therefore, we do not think 3.5-inch disk drive can be cooled well, even when you put in an additional fan. We will check this hypothesis in real test, when having fan and no fan.

Fixed in 5:25-inch room by unusual way

Fixed in 5:25-inch room by unusual way

The device is fixed in 5:25-inch bay by unusual way, using detachable plastic screws. As typical of fast screw for the new user series, optical drive is quite loose in its compartment, so you may want to fix it with screws instead.

A device can only be fixed with screws on the other side of outside compartment.

PSU compartment is protected with a dust filter

PSU compartment is protected with a dust filter

PSU compartment is protected with a dust filter installed in path under the frame. Beside it, dust shield of Carbide 200R is limited to gird on the edge of front panel, which prevents front fan from vacuuming dust into.

Assembling configuration inside the case

Assembling configuration inside the case

We have no problem with assembling our configuration in this case. Quick screws are easy to use. There are no sharp edges inside. And there is a wide space, especially for graphics card. The most inconvenience is about removing front panel, which have to do in order to install an additional fan and remove protective cover of outside compartment.

Wide cable compartment

Wide cable compartment

With wide cable compartment, you can easily close the corresponding side panel.

Huge swath is on rack of motherboard

Huge swath is on rack of motherboard

There is a huge swath on the rack of motherboard and you can install and remove the CPU cooler without taking your motherboard out of the chassis. A cut-line for a CPU power cable is also worth noting here.

Default ventilation system includes two 120mm fans: one inhales on front side (over disk rack) and one exhausts in normal position on back panel. Besides, there are five positions for 120/140mm fans (two on top, two on side and one at the bottom of frame) and one position for a 120mm fan on front side, opposite to disk rack.

In Silent mode of motherboard, front fan operates at 800RPM while one on the edge operates at 1280 RPM. Fans actually are similar but motherboard for edge fan does not support to adjust the speed.

Our Thermaltake TR-FDB-12-1300 fan is evaluated 1300 RPM, also operates at 800 RPM in Silent mode of motherboard.
