Toshiba NPW20B Short Throw Projector

Mention projectors and stuff like large rooms, big screens, and needing space comes to mind. It’s either that or cinemas and home theatre systems. Oddly enough, many do not think of boardroom meetings or small meeting rooms and how they need projectors as well. In fact, when it comes to business usage, projectors are likely to be paired with large conventions and corporate conferences. Toshiba is making a statement that projectors can do more than just be a unit for oversized halls, thanks to its Toshiba NPW20B Short Throw Projector.

Perfect for businesses

Let’s get this one of the way first: the NPW20B is designed primarily for boardrooms, small meeting halls, and mid-size events. It is the last category that this bulky yet lightweight projector can be used in as it is even ideal for small cinemas as well as town halls that require a projection system. In fact, the NPW20B makes short work of locations that have no room to put up a projection system. Convenience at its best!

Tweaking needed

Out of the box, the NPW20B required some minor color calibration. Mostly re-balancing the color and adjusting the temperature. Natively, it uses a warmer tone but after re-configuring it to be comfortable to the eyes, the projector produces superb color mixes. Now if it only had come out like this to begin with, that would have save me a lot of time in setting this up. It must be said that, in terms of brightness, the LED powered NPW20B does it job well as the luminance is currently incomparable. Can you imagine a projector with 10,000:1 contrast ratio that is used in a meeting room? Neither can I.

Light on the side

Oddly enough, the NPW20B, for its bulky design and hefty look, is not too heavy. The bulk of it lies in the LED lens it uses and the cooling system it uses within. One would think this projector would be a noisy monster when turned on but surprisingly it isn’t. Not only is it light weight, despite its somewhat large size, it also is pretty quiet too. What a lovely combination!

HD ready

Most projectors are now ready for HD and the NPW20B is no exception. While it doesn’t have native 1920 x 1080p resolution, it is more than ready to take on any 1080p content thanks to its HDMI port and higher video resolution functions. When paired with its high luminance lens, long operational hours, and excellent color balance (achieved after calibration has been carried out), it is the perfect projection system for work, play and everything in between.
