With great power come great
expectations... and a stiff sticker price
It feels as though the Butterfly may have
flitted in a bit late for way too much.
Even then, it is difficult to turn away
from a blower that exhibits such a delicate frame but yet manages to blow the
socks off competition with its quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and a 5-inch full
HD super LCD 3 display whose 440ppi pixel density has now been matched by the
Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4. This translated into a superlative
high-def. movie-watching experience. Quality is stellar, tonal gradations are
smooth and pictures appeared crisp. The gorgeous display is supported with
adequate hardware too, allowing one to watch quality content without any lag.
The good thing is overall performance is acceptably fluid even though it uses a
heavily customized HTC Sense 4+ UI.

Butterfly
All of this is neatly wrapped into a super
slim package that weighs just 140g. This is not a very broad 5-incher so it
fits well in the palm of the hand. The buttons are designed to maintain the
smooth lines but are too skinny for our liking. We would have also preferred
the power button to be on the side instead of way up on top.
Depending on your usage, this smarty will
just about see you through a 9-to-5 shift, provided you don’t slack off with a
game or movie. Even if this is not a deal breaker the HTC Butterfly comes with
baggage (aka, its price tag) that’s going to deter many an enthusiast.
Details
1. Wide angles: Fit in more people in your group shot or video con with
the F2.0, 28mm lens
2. Back light: The rear panel also sports an LED notification light, in
case the phone is face down
3. One to many: The microUSB port can be used as an MHL or HDMI link to
another device

Focus: Almost perfect
There is no doubt that the HTC Butterfly is
a superb phone that incorporates new, performance-grade hardware along with
well-appreciated features from its previous designs. For example, it’s
ImageChip, quality snapper and the wide-angled front camera. There’s Beats
Audio for those who would like to add some spunk to their music too. The
earphones were a letdown though; they are the stiff conventional plugs that
aren’t even comfortable. At this price, we expected to see something better
here. That and the non-removable battery is a letdown. Opening the microSIM/
microSD slot was quite bothersome too. These are minor issues but should’ve
been considered, if it was going to have such a premium mark up.
