Nokia Lumia 1020 41 Megapixels Of Awesome

For those who complain that their smartphones camera is never good enough, well here’s a nice solution

Nokia has quite a strong hold in the mid-to-low range market, but the high-end market seems to have always eluded the Finnish phone makers, despite their best efforts. One of their latest high-end Lumia, the Nokia Lumia 1020, aims to cater to a certain consumer segment, and are doing it with aplomb.

Whilst the main feature of the Lumia 1020 comes in the form of its 41MP camera, the rest of the phone is no slouch either. Powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the Lumia 1020 has a 4.5-inch AMOLED display at 1,280 x 768 pixels, and is equipped with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. It is quite unfortunate however that the phone does not come with an expandable storage slot, especially since a full 41MP shot eats up about 11MB of storage space.

Housed in a polycarbonate body, the Lumia 1020 is one of very few phones that has gotten the plastic look right. Carved out of a single block of polycarbonate material, the phone feels very sturdy. This is definitely one of Nokia’s brilliantly designed phones, judging purely by aesthetics.

The meat of the review, however, has to be about its 41MP camera. Using Carl Zeiss optics to power the PureView camera, Nokia was able to incorporate what is arguably the most powerful camera made for phones into the Lumia 1020.

Coupled with the Nokia Pro Camera app, you can take some amazing photos, regardless whether it’s outdoors, or at night, in the dark. The Pro Camera app allows you to adjust various settings, including ISO, shutter speed, aperture, exposure levels and even how the flash works. On the right settings, and with a tripod, preferably, the Lumia 1020 is capable of taking stunning night shots that even some point-and-shoots can only dream of taking.

One of the main issues that we do have to address with the Lumia 1020 is the fact that despite the AMOLED display, is that at a certain angle, you will notice a fair amount of discoloration. This is especially annoying when you’re taking a photo at a specific angle, and it’s especially bad considering that the display is very reflective as well.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is the go-to phone if you’re a shutterbug or an Instagram addict. The best thing about this phone is also that it comes with support for Microsoft’s OneDrive, which allows you to back up all your photos to the cloud instantly over mobile data or Wi-Fi.
