Instagram Substitutes On Android (Part 2) - Cinemagram, Clik, Steam Mobile & TeamViewer

5/10/2012 3:48:15 PM

In the grand tradition, we make our monthly pick of our favourite, most useful and most fascinating apps to hit the app store today

Cinemagram

Description: Cinemagram

We are, at this moment, probably pouring way too much love for Factyle's Cinemagram app to be healthily, morbidly sane. What Cinemagram does is basically let you shoot and create your own GIF animations, only it's very much more artsy that it sounds. You take a 2-3 sec. long video, and it lets you animate a small region while keeping the rest as still as photograph. You slap on a variety of xpro, vintage filters so lovingly provided (we say lovingly, because it makes the experience much more wonderful) and then you share it to the world. The result is a still photo with an animated part, and boy can the effect be wonderful. Our descriptions won't do it justice, so just head over to cinemagram.tumblr.com, and see why you should pick it up yourself.

Clik

Description: Clik

Clik is one cool, easy and (we daresay so) intuitive way to share the videos you've somehow found - while thumbing through YouTube in a party that isn't picking up - on a larger screen. This is how it works: you open clikthis. com on a web browser or a computer/smart-TV, which shows a QR code, which you have to scan with your Clik app on your device. You pick the video you want to show and the browser will magically stream it, with your phone now acting as a remote control. There's even a multiplayer mode, which lets a few other devices get connected to the same screen at the same time (via the QR code, of course). We'd like to think that it's something that could potentially go further than this, and pave way to a new future of content sharing.

Description: Steam Mobile

If you're a gaming aficionado, you would definitely be using as one of your means of purchasing games without having to leave the comforts of your own room. Steam is also known to come up with a lot of amazing discounts on games at random times, and it gets frustrating when you're out and about knowing that there's a very good deal going on. Your prayers of staying connected to Steam all the time has been answered with the arrival of the Steam Mobile app. The app doesn't just allow you to browse games that are on the database, you can also purchase them from the app and download it when you get back home, and also chat with your friends via the built-in Steam Chat service.
