Meet the EOS 6D with Wi-Fi capabilities

Canon releases the new EOS 6D, which the company claims is “the world’s lightest full-frame DSLR” equipped with a 20.2 megapixel CMOS sensor with precision 11-point AF system. Additionally, Canon also included built-in Wi-Fi and GPS support for those who wants to stay connected.

“Innovation and quality have always been the two very important characteristics of Canon. The powerful Canon EOS 6D is a ‘must-have’ with its upgraded imaging processor, the DIGIC 5+, which performs up to three times faster than the DIGIC 5, being amongst its notable new features! Another first with this launch is the new iOS and Android app, known as the EOS Remote, takes further advantage of the EOS 6D’s Wi-Fi capabilities. In linking the camera to these apps, it allows the iOS and Android devices to control the EOS 6D,” says Simon Wong, Director of Imaging Communication Products Division, Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

According to Canon Marketing Malaysia, the EOS 6D is now available at all Canon Authorized dealers, retailing at $2,049 (for the body only) while the EOS 6D with EF24-105 lens kit is retailing at $2,754. Also arriving in Malaysia in December is the EOS 6D with EF24-70 lens kit, which is priced at $3,314

With a full-frame sensor that is equivalent to a 35mm film, it can maximize the full potential of visual data that has been captured by lenses designed for 35mm cameras. The full-frame CMOS sensor captures more light per pixel than smaller sensors, offering a wider dynamic range that has remarkably low noise even when taking pictures at high ISO speeds. It even offers a speedy continuous picture snapping rate of 4.5 frames per second.

Other features include HDR Backlight Control mode, which is used to composite three shots taken at low, mid and high exposures into one main image to produce better picture quality. There is also Multiple Exposure Shots function that is designed to take up to nine photos that is then merged into one single image. This function is done to capture motion effects such as illustrating action sequences.

Then, following the latest camera trend, the EOS 6D also has Wi-Fi capabilities, which lets it connect to wireless networks, giving it the ability to transfer data to PCs and smartphones and even print photos with PictBridge-enabled (DPS over IP) wireless printers.

Debuting with the EOS 6D is iOS and Android based EOS Remote app. When paired with the Wi-Fi system of the camera, it can be remotely controlled via the iOS and Android device. Even the screen of the smart device can double up as the camera’s live view screen. As for functionality, the EOS Remote lets users change shooting modes, adjust the focus, and of course, snap a photo or record a video. They also can download images to iOS and Android devices and use these devices to view, organize and manage images on the camera.
