Sample photos

Some red-eye phenomenon can be seen in the portrait photos with flash, although the front screen makes portraits more interesting, and color is good. Color and exposure are good, with good color reproduction.

Image is soft in the corners, although details are generally good in the rest of the image, as well as when zoomed in. Digital zoom is best avoided, unless you plan on sharing on web such as Facebook, where the image will be resized. Some purple fringing visible, although this is most noticeable in high contrast areas, and not a big deal in most photos. Dynamic range is good, and can be extended by using the backlight mode.

ISO test images

The image noise is low at ISO80 and ISO100. The noise is increased at ISO 200, with a few details lost. Noise increases again at ISO400 with more detail than loss. Image becomes softer at ISO800, although the results seem to be acceptable. The highest noise at ISO3200, with a lot of detail loss, and this setting is best avoided, though ISO1600 is perhaps the most significant result, especially in the case of reduced size.

White-balance test images

White-balance test images

Automatic white balance (AWB) works well under tungsten light with a slightly warm result, and tungsten preset for more neutral results. AWB performs very well under fluorescent light, with presets for fluorescent light giving slight color detail, so it is best to balance AWB.

Panorama mode

Panorama mode allows you to pan the camera from one place to another while holding the shutter button down. The camera automatically stitched the image together while you shoot. Low resolution and detail is worse, so they are best used for sharing on the web.

Digital filters

Digital filters

There are a number of scene modes, frame selection, as well as digital effects, including miniature, vignette, artistic effects, chopped screen, sketch, soft focus, fisheye, old film, halftone, monochrome, retro, zoom, as well as some options to split the image.

Video

Video is recorded at 720p (1,280x720) at 30fps with mono sound and optical zoom is available while recording. You can also pause the video while recording. The quality is reasonable, although it would be better thanks to the optical image stabilization which this camera does not have.

Value

Samsung DV150F is priced at $193.5, so we would advise you to consider Samsung WB30F for $178.5, with the ability to zoom larger and larger rear screen, or you can save money and look at Samsung ST150F, available for $148.5. The other compact cameras with built-in Wi-Fi included, although none of them feature the front screen:

·         Samsung WB30F, 10x optical zoom, Wi-Fi, 178.5$

·         Nikon Coolpix S5200, 6x optical zoom, Wi-Fi, 247.5$

·         Panasonic SZ5, 10x optical zoom, Wi-Fi, 133.5$

·         Canon IXUS 240, 5x optical zoom, touchscreen, Wi-Fi, 148.5$

·         Canon IXUS 140, 8x optical zoom, Wi-Fi, 240$

You will also need to buy a memory card and a case or bag to keep your camera safe and protected - just based on our complete guide to buy camera bags.

Verdict

Samsung DV150F is the front screen, this could be perfect for those who are using “Selfies” and then upload straight to Facebook or Twitter. However, for others, the more value is found from other Samsung Wi-Fi camera, such as Samsung ST150F, with a larger 3-inch screen, or Samsung WB30F with a 10x optical zoom lens. Image quality is good, and the camera is connected to Wi-Fi great for those who want a front screen on a camera, there are very few alternatives available.
