Canon Pixma MX- 435 Office

The Canon Pixma MX-435 Office is an all-in-one device that provides scan, print, copy and fax functionality with the addition of both ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and wireless connectivity within a unit measuring 458 x 385 x 200mm

Description: Description: Canon Pixma MX- 435 Office

Following the normal arrangement of facilities, the ADF sits on top of the A4 flatbed scanner, with a resolution of 4800 x 1200dpi, mounted on an inkjet printer. The ADF can handle up to 30 sheets fed through the scanner for printed copies to appear at the front of the unit. The main paper input slot, with a capacity of 100 sheets, is located just below the output slot. While both these slots have an adjustable supports flap, it was noticeable that the output flap was not quite long enough to stop documents from falling on to the floor.

Positioned on the sloping front, between the printer and scanner, is the unit’s control panel, featuring various buttons, a telephonic pad and a small LCD window. A socket for PictBridge connect is located on the left-front of the printer module

This a two-cartridge model, with black and color units needing to be inserted into a compartment conveniently located on the right-front corner. The supplied software will lead you through the process of setting up a wireless or USB connection. In the case of the latter, the USB port is at the rear of the MX-435, as is the power socket. Included among the software are a Speed Dial Utility, Easy-PhotoPrint EX and Easy-WebPrint EX

While some of the functionality available with this all-in-one requires the presence of a computer, either Windows or Mac, some operations can be carried out in stand-alone mode. You can fax, photocopy and scan simply using the Canon unit. When using the photocopy facility you can feed documents by hand to the scanner or use the ADF. There’s support for manual number entry, group dialing or coded memory dialing when using the fax feature.

Canon has rated the MX-435 at 9.7ppm in black and 5.5ppm for color using set testing standards. I ran my own tests using a 102-word document in black and again with some color including a small image. The tests were carried out using Word as the host application using the three print modes of Fast, Standard and High.

All three modes produced excellent quality although you might prefer sticking with Standard or High for really important documents. A five-page document took 80 seconds to produce a copy using ADF. A single A4 full color document required 39 second for scanning and printing.

Switching to the supplied Easy-PhotoPrint EX utility, a 10 x 15cm print took 42 seconds, which I felt was a little on the slow side. A full A4 print was produced in 119 seconds. In both cases the image quality was more than acceptable.

Originally launched with a $128 price, this excellent product is currently listed at the time of writing at $96 by Amazon.co.uk. Replacement cartridges are priced at $28.5 for black and $33.5 for color with a bundle available at $44.5. One additional point: this product has the most effective finger-smear-resistant lacquered black finish that I have come across.

An excellent all-in-one let down slightly by the paper output tray
