Something for all that you need, and for more to come

It's alright if you don't know that ASUS are also makers of desktop computers, so we'd simply advice you to sit back and not be surprised when they unveil an ASUS rocket to the moon (we're thinking by 2020). Newly brought into our shores, the ASUS Essentio CM6850 desktop PC is billed as a "one-stop entertainment platform". How well is it? We'll find out.

Description: Description: ASUS Essentio CM6850 Desktop PC

The Essentio's chassis is very much like a mid-sized pre-built office desktop in design and looks; it's not too bulky, and the aesthetics doesn't go further than a glossy front-face and a few stylistic curves. But looks is secondary here; what you're looking for is completeness. For that, the Essentio comes fitted with every essential connectivity options you can care to want, including 8 USB 2.0 ports (four in the front panel, situated on top of a 16-in-1 card reader), 2 USB 3.0 ports at the rear, HDMI and DVI connectivity and a Blu-ray drive to boot. But for all of its wholesomeness, the Essentio does indeed lack-out in a few. For one, there is no in-built wireless connectivity here — something other recent pre-built desktops are often apt to have. For two, you may find that a few other connectivity options are missing, too; ports like Firewire and eSATA feels like a missed opportunity when you realise that the computer is powerful enough for heavier workload.

The Essentio's innards are powered by an Intel Core i5-2320 processor clocked at 3.0GHz, which is combo-ed with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1TB SATA storage and an NVIDIA GeGorce GT530 (2GB GDDR3) graphics card.

The resulting mix is a desktop that is powerful enough for heavier work, multimedia enjoyment and even a spot of gaming.

One concern with pre-built PCs are its rigidity when it comes to upgrade, which the Essentio graciously avoids by leaving you space to tinker around and upgrade the PC the way you see fit. Not that you really needed to, really. But knowing that you can is a gratifying feeling.
