Floating
Camera Phone
We tried making a floating camera phone
once, but to our dismay it seems that expensive gadgets tend to sink. This
experiment looks more successful than ours: like something out of a Dali
painting, an old handset floats in the air magically, snaking into a retro
camera and lighting what's below. Part home accessory, part magician's prop,
these one-off designs are as surreal as fish-flavored neutrino hats.

everything? Not another timepiece - they’ll never appreciate your dirt-cheap

original Swiss jeweled movements from, the ‘20s and ‘20s and Edwardian-leather

35mm Film USB Flash Drive
Price: $22.5

When ageing gadgets find themselves in the
harsh tundra of obsolescence, a descent into existential angst often follows.
Not so for these recycled film canister flash drives. After a full and
rewarding life holding photographic film, they now house 4GB of flash storage.
Available in over a dozen styles and hooking up via USB2.0, your only worry is
Uncle Roger trying to stuff them into his Canon Canonet.

BoomCase
Price: $495
Website: store.theboomcase.com
Not since September 1986 have you been
congratulated on your lunchbox, but that’s about to change. There’s no room for
A.Samie in here, but instead of a BLT you get 50W of audio power from the 5in
woofer, a 2in full-range speaker and grated tweeter. It also has a rechargeable
battery and 3.5mm-in, and for an extra US$30 you can add Bluetooth. Designs
change regularly, so maybe hold out for Thundercats.

Tinker and Tailor Praktica Camera Lamp
Price: $450
Website: thedeaddollsclub.com
One of a range of 35mm SIR cameras lovingly
repurposed into quirky desk lamps, this Praktica now emits light rather than
capturing it. Proudly perched atop a detachable vintage tripod, its 35W halogen
bulb will shine down on your artistic endeavors, while its classy,
cloth-covered electric cable caps a vintage triumph. Cartier Bresson would be
green with envy.
