Why Would You Buy A Tablet? (Part 2)

Software

iOS

This is the mobile operating system from Apple, and the iPad 4th gen flexes its muscles using this. The tablet version has been tweaked slightly to make better use of the iPad's bigger display size. There is a two pronged advantage that the iOS holds - extremely slick user experience and a very wide range of applications on the App store. iPad mini has been just as big a hit with users, and the smaller form factor has been lapped up by users all over the world.

Android

While Apple has often been criticized for being a 'closed' environment. Android tablets do have the eco-system of range - multiple manufacturers with multiple tablet versions. As an OS, Android 3.0 was made specifically for tablets, and that is an honest attempt to take on the iOS. Some tablet makers are still installing older versions of Android, but these are usually the lower-end devices. Android 4.0 and beyond will be made for both the smartphones and tablets as well, with a keen eye to optimize certain features more for the tablets. This was evident especially in the notification area of the update Android v4.2 (Jelly Bean) which had a slick interface for the notification area at the top - aimed towards tablets.

Windows 8

The new player on the market is already making giant steps to capture the tablet market by storm. But, it’s still early days for Win 8, nevertheless, the company has made a really good looking interface with a slick UI and excellent optimizations for touchscreen. There are plenty of manufacturers who are already spitting out Windows 8 tablets as well as tablet-laptop hybrids which can be used as either of the two.

Tough, dust and water resistant

Then there are a whole lot of manufacturers who are wooing in customers with crazy and cool features like tablets which are really tough, dust and water resistant and a whole lot of shebang! After all, if a dozen tablets in the markets still look alike after careful consideration of the above points, then a buyer would really start losing hair faster than the Indian cricket team loses its wickets on bouncy wickets! Hence, some novelty feature, especially one that would really be helpful (than being just gimmicky) would help a buyer to make his choice that much easily.
