Project Christine
Imagine if upgrading your PC was as
simple as pulling out the bit you want to upgrade, and plugging in a faster
one. That’s Razer’s dream, as displayed at CES this year.
Powered up: Liquid cooled- self
contained components.
Played out: Ignoring that PCs are
already modular in this very same manner (you just have to open the case), how
well this will actually work in practice remains to be seen, as does the value
proposition given hardware formats change so rapidly. Razer is unlikely to
allow third party hardware development.

Lego Simpsons
Hi-dilly ho-dilly neighbourinies! TV’s
numero uno (as decided by us, just now) pop-culture icon is coming to Legoland
and it’s frankly a wonder it’s taken this long to happen.
Powered up: The moulded faces in that
iconic Groening style are quite a departure from the simple smiley of old and
the more recent stylised expressions seen on minifig heads, a change that’s
sure to please as many people as it upsets.
Played out: Well, if you like neither
The Simpsons, nor Lego… What kind of monster are you?

Alienware Steam Machine
Anyone who’s actually tried Steam in
Big Picture mode with a controller knows it’s pretty slick, so Valve is
definitely on to something with SteamOS muscling in on console territory. The
pairing of two of the biggest names in PC gaming (Steam and Alienware, natch),
means some pretty exciting things for gamers, and with Alienware’s penchant for
providing performance hardware.
Powered up: Internal Intel/NVIDIA
combo, and it looks sweet too.
Played out: No doubt Alienware’s price
premium will kick in, and the SteamOS is unproven in the wild so far.

Smart Toothbrush
This had to have started out as a
joke. Surely? Do we really need a “smart” toothbrush? Kolibree thinks we do!
Make brushing super-exciting we guess!
Powered up: Share stats with friends
and family! Parents! Keep track of those pesky non-brushing kids!
Played out: If you don’t know when
you’re brushing your teeth, you’ve probably got bigger problems than a lack of
tracking software monitoring the times you do. Consider going to a dentist.

Pebble Steel
Looks like the smartwatch is here to
stay, and given the increasing size of phones, and the unwieldiness of hauling
them out of your pocket every time it makes a noise, or when you want to just
check the time, we think it’s a good thing.
Powered up: The Steel is much trendier
than the previous pebble iteration. It’s thinner, lighter, has Corning Gorilla
Glass, and is waterproof rated to 5ATM so feel free to take it swimming (just
don’t take your phone as well). It’s also fully compatible with all Pebble apps
in the existing ecosystem!
Played out: Recharging your watch once
a week is a minor hassle.
