Performance comparison
As usual, we will compare the speeds of the
mainboards in two different modes: in nominal mode and during CPU and memory
overclocking. The first mode is interesting since it shows how well the
mainboards work with their default settings. It is a known fact by most users
who do not tweak their system; they simply choose the optimal BIOS settings and
do nothing else. That's the reason why we run all of the tests with virtually
no interference in any way with the default mainboard settings. For comparison,
we also included the results of the ASRock Z77 Extreme11 for our mainboard
review. The results in the diagrams were arranged in descending order and the numbers
for Asus P8Z77-V LK are marked with a darker color for your convenience.
Nominal mode
We used Cinebench 11.5. All of the tests
were run five times and the average result of the five runs was taken for the
performance charts.
The
Cinebench 11.5 test
We have already used Fritz Chess Benchmark
utility for a long time and it has shown to be illustrative. It created the
repetitive results, the performance in the scales totally depending on the
number of related calculations.
The
Fritz Chess Benchmark
X264 FHD Benchmark v1.0.1 (64 bit) allows
us to compare the system performance against the existing results in the
database. The average results of five consecutive trials are shown on the
diagram below:

We measured the performance of Adobe
Photoshop CS6 using our own standard made from Retouch Artists Photoshop
Speed Test that has been modified in a creative way. It consists of editing
the typical images of four 24-megapixel ones from a digital camera.

In the storing test, a 1 GB file is
compressed using LZMA2 algorithms, whereas the other compression settings are
still at defaults.
The
7-Zip 9:20 test
Like in the data compression test, the
faster 16 million of Pi digits are calculated, the better they are. This is the
only standard that the number of processor cores is not really important, since
it creates the single transmission.
The
SuperPi 8M test
The next diagram indicates the CPU test
results from the 3DMark11 - Physics Score. The score obtained in a special
physics test simulating the behavior of a complex gaming system that work with
multiple objects:

Scoring the integrated system with the
Hitman Absolution game turned out to be highly handy. It can be launched
directly from the game, from the game utilities and even from the command
prompt. To obtain the minimum acceptable results, we had to use the lowest
image settings and employ one of the low-resolution modes.
The
Hitman Absolution test
Batman: Arkham City game also reacts
strongly to any changes in the CPU clock frequency, but it uses DirectX 11. We
carried out scoring this game system five times with high image quality
settings and then take the average of those five times for the diagrams.
The
Batman test
We have pointed out many times in our
reviews in regard to how the mainboards work in identical testing conditions to
demonstrate the same performance. The achieved results once again confirm this
rule without having to declare: in the nominal mode, the performance of the
Asus P8Z77-V LK is really like the high-end Asus P8Z77-V. The difference is
only a fraction of a percent.
Overclocked mode
I want to remind you that all of the
mainboards could clock system memory to the same frequency, but ASRock Z77
Extreme11 was the unique sample to overclock the CPU to a maximum of 4.6 GHz.
The other samples stopped at 4.5 GHz. That's why we ran the tests with the CPU
clock speed of 4.5 GHz, but we should think of the fact that the ASRock
mainboard will be faster at 4.6 GHz.

There is no surprise here. The ASUS P8Z77-V
LK does not differ much from its high-end cousin in performance. Anyway its
differences compared with the mainboard of other brands may be easily viewed,
but are not major.
