HTC and LG are companies that have launched 3D phones early. While Taiwanese brands have not released the next products, LG have performed its second model. Optimus 3D Max is designed more lightly and thinly. LG also brings a good ability to display images on 3D effect and editing video software.

Optimus 3D uses 4.3-inch screen on LCD technology, 480 x 800 pixel resolution with the ability to display prominent images directly without specialized glasses. The processor of the mobile phone possesses Tri-Dual technology with dual-core processor at 1.2GHz. The new product has 8GB of internal memory, dual 5 megapixel camera allowing taking 3D photos and recording 3D videos.

It you are interested in 3D and want the difference, this is the model you can’t ignore. However, with that configuration and price, LG Optimus 3D Max will face to the competition of many rivals who have better features, performance and design.

Design and screen

Description: 3D Max has a more compact design than its predecessor last year as well as its rival, Evo 3D of HTC.

3D Max has a more compact design than its predecessor last year as well as its rival, Evo 3D of HTC.

Compared with Optimus 3D P920 of last year, 3D Max P720 this year has nice and lighter design. Despite owning 4.3-inch touch screen, the thickness of the phone is only 9.6 mm. Along with 148g of weight, we feel more comfortable and pleasant than the previous version when holding.

The front of LG is designed simply and fashionably with black protective glasses. Series of 4 touch buttons below the screen are hidden and only bright up when needed. The top and bottom edges of the screen are narrowed by LG, so the phone becomes more compact while it still looks large because of a 4.3-inch screen. LG Optimus 3D Max has also a secondary VGA camera in the front.

Description: There is dual camera in the back but it is not too tough.

There is dual camera in the back but it is not too tough.

Meanwhile, there is dual 5 megapixel camera system at the back of 3D Max supporting Full HD video recording in 2D and HD 720p in 3D. However, the whole dual camera with Flash is put in a metal piece and it isn’t prominent from the surface of the back as 3D model last year. The back of LG is used black plastic material, lumpy patterns with small dots, which makes it become studier in hand. The bottom of LG Optimus 3D Max is a little prominent like Galaxy S II of Samsung countryman.

Description: Compared to the model of previous year, 3D Max is thinner and lighter. Buttons on edges are designed sophisticatedly. MicroUSB port has sliding lid.

Memory card and sim card slots are designed inside the back cover. The border around the body is made from black metal that show the strength and firmness in design. MicroUSB port located in the left edge also has a lid. Volume keys and 3D quick launch button are designed with lumpy patterns towards the center.

Description: The top with power button and 3.5mm headphone jack

The top edge used the same material with the back cover is the place of 3.5 mm headphone jack as well as lock button. Optimus 3D Max has MHL communication sharing with microUSB port instead of HDMI.

Similar to series last year, LG equips Optimus 3D Max with 4.3-inch screen along with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. With 217 ppi pixel density, the screen is able to display sharply, particularly and softly at normal distance. In spite of giving vibrant and bright colors, the screen of 3D Max is not really deep and can’t display black well. However, it has high brightness and the visibility in sunlight is acceptable.

Nevertheless, the most striking point in LG Optimus 3D Max is the capability to display 3D images without dedicated glasses. With parallax barrier technology, viewers can easily see 3D images with buoyancy and depth on the phone screen. Experimenting with 3D movies available in the phone, 3D effects shown are very impressive, not less than a wide TV screen, though viewers don’t need specialized glasses.

Not only does the phone create images with deep effects into the screen, it also shows floating or flying over the screen quite sharply and impressively. However, because using technology without glasses, users need to put the phone far from faces 30 – 40 cm and watch directly to get the best effects. If you tilt, effects will not show up easily and images will be blurred.

Description: The highlight on 3D Max is still the screen that can display 3D images without dedicated glasses.
