Nokia Lumia 620 is the cheapest Windows
Phone 8 model in the market. Having the powerful PureView technology removed, the
model still retains a lot of unique features, such as camera and map.
This is Nokia’s mid-segment model using
Windows Phone 8, priced at $250. Compared to Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, Lumia 620
has lower specs, with small screen, low resolution and no PureView. However, the
product is till equipped super sensitivity, exceeds even iPhones.
The
screen features ClearBack for clear display even in outdoor conditions.
The device comes with a dual-core Qualcomm
Snapdragon S4 processor (1GHz), 512MB of RAM, 8GB storage (3GB available), 3.8in
super-sensitive touchscreen, 800x480 pixel resolution, 246ppi density, Adreno
305 GPU, primary 5MP camera supporting HD recording (720p @ 30fps), secondary
0.3MP camera and 1,300mAh battery.
This update fixed issues that had appeared
on Lumia 820 and 920. Particularly, in continuous use, there’d be no auto-reset,
more accurate mapping data, screen rotation lock, auto-brightness and steadier
camera…
In comparison with Lumia 920 and 820, the
model has slower processor, yet it still ensures basic uses such as
web-browsing, social network checking in, YouTube playback or 3D filming… Although
the screen comes in smaller size, the rounded corner keeps the model fixed in
palm, especially for female users.
Besides, the product shines with changeable
colorful cases, thanks to the manufacturer’s dual-shot color technique, giving
the phone a translucent polycarbonate layer right above the background surface.
This adds more colors and depth to the product as well as variants of color
mixing according to user’s interest.
There come also Nokia’s exclusive apps:
Cinemagraph, Smarshoot, Maps, Drive, City Lens…
Design
Sharing common design with Lumia 820, Lumia
620 looks more compact but there’s a great change in interiors. For instance, Lumia
820 user just needs to prize tenderly the corners to remove the back lid. To do
so, Lumia 630 user has to press one hand into the back camera while the other
hand keeps the front surface, then the model automatically detaches.
Lumia 620’s case is quite distinctive as jack
slot is mounted into the case, different from the conventional ones, making applying
cases into the phone like playing with Lego. In the phone’s body, there is a
cavity containing joints with jack slot and they connect together through a lot
of contacts.
The
jack slot is mounted with the case and connected to the phone via contacts.
Additionally, when the case is removed, the
body reveals a lot of contacts and circuits for sideways buttons. They easily
get dirty, affecting the device’s operation. Cleaning them also require users to
be careful not to damage circuits.

the case is removed, the body reveals a lot of contacts and circuits for
sideways buttons.
The stereo is as large as thumb but when
covered by case consisting tiny holes, sound is limited, missing bass feeling.
Moreover, SIM tray is designed similarly on
iPhone 4 models, meeting micro-SIM standard and being removable. In case user lose
this tray, it’ll be hard to find a similar one to install SIM card into.
Display
Compared with IPS screens in Android
smartphones, Lumia 620 attracts users with ClearBack technology, enhancing
brightness and contrast for vibrant colors. Specially, under bright lighting or
from tilt-viewing, display is full of details and images.
Lumia
620 attracts users with ClearBack technology.
Lumia 620’s display is better than that of
Lumia 920 and 820. After long use, its temperature doesn’t spread much heat.
Besides, the hi-pressure protect glass is nearly as perfect as predecessors. Especially,
the super sensitive technology allows metal points or fingers covered by gloves
to interact without any difficulty.
Though the screen support 10-pointing
touch, its small size makes swiping and sliding more suitable for two-finger
maneuvers.
Camera
New update gave the machine more stable
camera features, especially in low-lit, we just needed to slightly changed in
ISO or frame options to enhance image quality. This is a new improvement for
the model though Lumia 620’s camera is not as hi-end as of Lumia 920.
However, in low-lit with different lighting
sources, image quality was in disorder, affecting focusing much.
Features
Thanks to new update, apps works more
steadily, maps didn’t get into trouble with street involving one-way or two-way
instructions. Or when Nokia City Lens was used to locate nearby, there would be
no lag and heat. A pause button was added to avoid from exploiting much
background resources.
Because of using Windows Phone 8, the
machine is integrated with Microsoft apps, such as People linking accounts from
Facebook, Twitter, and Google…plus getting new feeds in its own unique
interface without using any browsers or apps to view. In addition, Store allows
for downloading new apps and games. At present, Windows store’s amount of apps
is massively increasing for user’s demand.
Compared to Lumia 920 and 820 models, Lumia
620 produced less heat, especially with 3D games or HD movies. When tested with
the 3D game: Splinter Cell, the phone didn’t show any lag yet it ran smoothly
with few heat.
Performance
Having low specs, this model is still ranked
among models having steady performance, meeting user’s varied demands. Thus, it
overcame our tests easily.
Battery
Though Lumia 620 is equipped with a
1,300mAh battery, common smartphones in the market still have larger capacity.
But, thanks to the energy-saving Qualcomm processor, Lumia 620’s runtime was
fine enough to deal with one day-running.
For example, in a continuous usage
including 3G/Wi-Fi on, new feeds from social networks, auto-brightness and
irregular talking/calling, total time allotted was 7h 45min.
However, in heavier continuous usage
featuring maximum brightness, YouTube playback, volume of 80%, new feeds from
social networks via Wi-Fi, total time allotted was 6h 15min. Heat produced by
the device was considerably acceptable, in comparison with Lumia 820 and 920.
