Otterbox offers military grade protection for consumer smartphones.

Otterbox is a smartphone accessory manufacturer that specializes in protective casings for select smartphones and tablets. The brainchild of a water sport enthusiast, the company originally made water resistant boxes and casings for iPods. They soon switched focus to create protective casings for mobile devices. They also supply the US Army with casings for sensitivity field equipment.

The company currently offers cases for various products, such as the Amazon Kindle, all of Apple’s devices iPhone, the Barnes and Noble Nook, various BlackBerry phones and its Playbook, Boost Mobile phones, Motorola devices, Samsung GALAXY models, Sony Reader, Google’s current Nexus range and various HTC as well as LG devices.

With such an extensive line-up, one can only wonder as to why not all of these casings are available in Malaysia.

There are currently six different series: Defender, Commuter, Impact, Reflex, Prefix, and Pursuit. The Defender and Commuter series both offer the highest end protection, providing multiple layers of defense against the elements (and clumsy users).

As for the Defender range, it is the case for demanding conditions, heavy use and random accidents. In addition to its multi-layer protection, it also features a built-in screen protector and port covers that prevent debris from damaging ports.

Those that prefer a slimmer version, albeit with less protection can look to the Commuter line. This slim and sleek case provides substantial protection for your device to keep it looking great. It features the same port covers as the Defender, although it only has two layers of protection. It is definitely a necessary trade-off to maintain the narrow profile.
