Hardness
Now, let’s talk about the main attractions.
How can Torque be able to take the punishment? It turns out to be pretty much.
To check, we performed our drop tests on the cement floor next to the pool. To
reproduce the drop, we held the phone in 2 main positions: as if we’re shooting
or filming, and making calls. With the author, this expressed into the drops at
a distance of 5 to 6 feet. Over and over, the portable fort of Kyocera still
survived. Sometime, the battery cover protruded from the edge. If the battery
flipped out of its position just enough, the phone would be off, but fitting
the back cover on shown that Torque still worked normally. This might be a
serious problem if the phone was in the water, but on the other hand it
wouldn’t forerun the bad luck for smartphone.

Meanwhile, the screen was undamaged, with
no scratch or crack. It’s unable to say the same thing to other fields of the
phone, but the damage it took is just in aesthetic respect. One time, one of
the decorative rivets became loose, but we’re able to push it back to its
position with no problem. As the rubber edges took the focus of the drops, the
angles of the devices withstood all the most noticeable scratches, but they
didn’t destroy how beautiful the phone looks. While the back took lots of small
scratches, the paint streaks from the concrete gumming to the rubber material
were the most annoying thing. However, with a little of water and wiping, we
easily rubbed out all the stain.
We took the phone to a test at the pool and
at a regional pool and completely sunk it down near the shore (of course after
making sure that its ports were plugged). We also tossed into the sand. Torque kept
ion working – though some of the sand continued to throw out over time. Smartphone
also survived after being sunk in a vase full of water in 30 minutes. There’s
no torture that Torque couldn’t bear. If you’re dreaming of using the phone
under water, we had news for you: impossible. When being sunk in the water, the
touch screen considered the soft tap of the water onto the screen as input,
making an uncontrollable mess of experience. However, if you’re cunning, you
can begin recording a video when it’s under water. As you could imagine, the
record was nothing but an uninteresting water environment.
Camera
Equipped with 5MP autofocus camera, Torque can
compete in terms of technical specs against iPhone 4, bit of course it will be
nothing compared to the modern flagship devices with 8MP to 13MP camera. However,
its 2,592x1,944 mages are pretty stable – even when viewing on the MacBook Pro
Retina screen however, in some circumstances, camera took light colors, but
switching it to HDR mode mainly solved the situation. Even when talking about
shooting action images, the hardware preformed impressively – we could even
take a picture of the birds spreading their wings when they’re flying. The
macro images might have been sharper, but they’re still pretty good when not
being magnified to full screen size on PC.

The image quality gets worse in low light
condition. “night scenery” mode put in the default software increased the
exposure significantly when the image subjects stayed close, but soon became not
very effective when the subjects were far away. However, using special mode
provided nicer images than being attached to “auto” mode. When it’s dark
enough, focusing at far distance seemed to be difficult to the sensor of Torque.
Regardless of the outstanding image quality
in daytime, the phones has some problems with the default camera app as it
lacks of tap-to-focus feature and continuous shooting mode only takes pictures
in VGA res. The app doesn’t include panorama mode which attach the images
together with max res of 1,280x720. About the front camera, everything is not
too good as its quality is the same to a basic camera.

About the video, the phone can record 1,080p
at 30fps. at max res, the stored videos look pretty stable. Our main complaint
when talking about the video relates to the storage. Though it may have 4GB of
built-in capacity (not include the additional capacity from the microSD card), you
can only use 1GB because the rest are filled with OS and the necessary files.
Thanks to that, recording 1,080p videos will quickly fill up the capacity – especially
when most of that space is taken by the apps, images and other footages. We
released the space by erasing a video, and can be able to record a 1-min-38-sec
video which takes 235.4MB. Anyone who love to take pictures or download game will
need to spend on the microSD card.
