The Sturdiest Smartphones At Present : Sony Xperia Go, Motorola Defy, Panasonic Eluga, Toshiba Regza T01-D

With intention of water-proof smartphones, Sony developed Xperia Go and Acro S models while Motorola had already shone with Defy smartphone.

Unlike models from either Sonim or JCB Protalk with bulky and hard-looking design, heavy-duty Android smartphones come with compact and appealing appearance. Products, such as Xperia Go, Motorola Defy, etc… own less redundant detail in design but still maintain abilities that can resist water, dust and shock.

After Motorola, Sony became interested in heavy-duty smartphones. Besides, some Japanese manufacturers also followed this trend. Although Acro S hasn’t appeared in local market yet, users can pick another durable one at various prices.

Here are some products that are available on local market.

Sony Xperia Go

Description: Xperia Go has nice design, good specs and impressive water resistance.

This is the latest model that has just appeared. The phone comes in compact and slim design, similar to that of previous model, Xperia Sola. Moreover, it owns IP-67 standard providing water and dust resistance and anti-scratch screen.

Besides, this smartphone has Android 2.3 OS, dual-core process and 5MP camera. Unauthorized product costs $350 while official one is sold for $425.

Sony Xperia Active

Unlike Xperia Go, Xperia Active shows its uncommon appearance with thick case resisting water and shock. However, Xperia Active owns less powerful specs than Xperia Go. There are 3inch screen, 1GHz singe-core processor and Android OS.

Motorola Defy

Defy Plus is an upgrade of Motorola’s first heavy-duty smartphone of Defy series. This device’s processor is improved from 800HMz to 1GHz. Besides, it also comes with 1,700mAh battery, IP-67 standard for water and dust resistance. This product is now available on the market. RRP is $300.

Motorola Defy Mini

Motorola Defy Mini XT312 has more compact design than Defy Plus thanks to its 3.2inch screen which is smaller than the 3.7inch one of Defy Plus. Belonging to Defy series, Defy XT312 also features special standard for resistance in water or heavily dusty environment. The phone is equipped with single-core processor (600MHz), 3MP camera and 1,650mAh battery.

Panasonic Eluga

Description: This phone costs less than $500.

According to Panasonic, Eluga can be either soaked under water within 30 minutes at 1m depth or covered by 75micrometer thickness of dust within 8 hours, without any affected operations.

Besides these great features, Panasonic also equips their model with Android 2.3.5 (can be upgraded to 4.0), dual-core processor (1GHz), 4.3inch OLED display (qHD resolution), 8MP camera and NFC.

Toshiba Regza T01-D

Description: Toshiba Regza T01-D with nice slimness

Toshiba Regza T01-D with nice slimness

For $550, this model is distributed in Japan via NTT Docomo provider and sold as unauthorized product in local market. This phone owns hi-end specs including dual-core processor (1.2GHz), 1GB of RAM and 4.3inch screen plus HD resolution.

Despite water resistance, Regza T01-D features slim and nice design.

Sharp Aquos SH-01D

Description: Sharp Aquos Phone SH-01D comes with 500-dollar price and 3D display.

Aquos SH-01D has similar specs of Toshiba Regza T01D. Sharp’s model owns a TI-OMAP 4430 dual-core chip (1GHz). Besides, this device supports 3D display without glasses and features 4.5inch screen (720 x 1,280 pixels). Furthermore, camera is upgraded with 12.1MP resolution and professional photo capturing.

AGM Rock V5

Description: This model shows hard-looking appearance and costs $350.

AGM Rock V5’s hard-looking design reminds users of Sonim XP2 or Land Rover S1 with thick rubber-covered corners as well as manly and rugged appearance.

Meeting IP-67 standard allows AGM Rock V5 to be soaked under water within 30 minutes at 1m depth. Additionally, this phone can stand against dust and shock with its anti-scratch display. Though, the phone runs on Android 2.2, yet it supports dual-SIM connectivity.
