Quite a few speakers now use Apple’s
AirPlay technology to stream CD-quality music over your home Wi-Fi network.
Pure’s new Sensia 200D takes a different tack, opting for a rival wireless
system known as DLNA (digital living network alliance).
Quite
a few speakers now use Apple’s AirPlay technology to stream CD-quality music
over your home Wi-Fi network.
Apple doesn’t support DLNA in its iOS
mobile devices, but you can use the DLNA networking features of the Sensia 200D
simply by downloading the Pure Connect app from the App Store (bitiyfVBZPaT).
An Android version is available, too.
Connecting the Sensia to a home network was
very straightforward, thanks to the touchscreen controls on its colourful 7in
display, and we were able to start streaming music from an iPhone with no
trouble at all.
The sound quality is excellent: clear and
detailed, and with respectable bass given the relatively small size of the
unit. The 30W output isn’t enough to get a full-on party going, but it’s fine
for listening to the radio while you work or playing tunes over dinner.
The Lounge app does have a couple of sloppy
flaws, though - the main one being that it lists songs in alphabetical order,
rather than according to the original album track listing. Pure told us that
this would be fixed ‘in the next few days’ - and hopefully by the time this
review is published - but it’s amazing that they allowed a mistake like that to
slip through in the first place. The app’s Search function doesn’t currently
work either, and Pure could only say that a fix for this was coming soon.

Verdict
The Sensia 200D itself works very well,
although it is a bit pricey for what is essentially a fancy digital radio.
However, the unfinished iOS app is simply sloppy, and we’d recommend that you
check the latest info on the App Store before buying the Sensia for use with
any iOS device.

iHome iD9
iHome’s iD9 is a portable, rechargeable
stereo-speaker dock for your iOS devices and iPods. Simply place your iOS
device in the iD9’s cradle and start rocking out. An internal battery packs
enough juice to last for around 4.5 hours of playback at a reasonable volume.
If you connect the dock to AC power, it will even charge your docked device.
The basic device generates nice, although not jaw-dropping, sound around your
home, and it can even provide a battery- powered soundtrack for a small outdoor
gathering.

Logitech Wireless Solar
This full-size Bluetooth keyboard looks
right at home in front of a Mac, but is also designed to work with iPads and
iPhones: its F-keys provide special features for Macs and OS devices, and it’s
compact enough that you can toss it in a bag along with your iPad. The K760 can
draw power to recharge its battery even from dim ambient light in your home or
office. In a well-lit room, the charge rarely dips below full. The low- profile
keys are comfortable to use and offer good tactile feedback.

Blue Mikey Digital
People who record audio on a regular basis
will tell you that the iPhone and iPad are great devices, limited only by their
stock built-in microphones. This is where the Blue Mikey Digital steps up; it’s
a portable, lightweight Dock- connector mic (which is therefore not currently
iPhone 5-compatible) with powerful functionality and good features. It improves
the quality of audio recording on an OS device immeasurably and is perfectly
good enough for home or semi-professional voice recording.
