Toshiba SDW30 Portable LED Projector - Projections On The Move

11/29/2012 3:09:25 PM

Toshiba's portable projector will go with you, and brings along a little bit more.

A projector isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind whenever buying a new display either for the computer or the living room. But hey, if you're in need of a portable visual output device, the Toshiba SDW30 portable LED projector might just be what you're looking for.

It's not a pico-sized projector, but the SDW30 is very much smaller than the standard ones. It'll fit nicely in a bag and won't break your shoulders carrying.

The SDW30 projector comes decked with a few nifty ports including an SD Card reader, USB ports and HDMI and audio ports. This is especially useful as users who carry around the projector as they don't need a laptop or computer to hook up to in order to do presentations.

The SDW30 projector features a lamp that is 500 ANSI Lumens in brightness and a contrast ratio of 8000:1. In layman's terms, the lamp is bright enough to put out a decent display even in a rather brightly lit room. The projector also comes with lamp and temperature indicators, to show how hot the lamp is and needs to be shut down before it breaks.

As we played around with the SDW30, the SDW30 should be about 250cm away from the projected surface to ensure the most optimum viewing experience. A lowly lit or dark room is perfect for the projector as well.

The LED lamp has a lifetime of about 20,000 hours, with an optimal usage time of about two to three hours each, before the projector gets too hot. It works great for movies as well, as on a proper projection screen, the colours are crisp enough for shows, and it can output up to 720p as well.

One downside to the SDW30 we feel is the lack of a built-in battery. It is a bit of a shame though, as a battery that would last around two hours or so would be great on this device. For a change, though, you don't need to lug a huge power brick to power it, as it works fine with a single three-point cable.

Description: It supports pretty much all the connectivity ports that you need, and will also project content from a USB and SD card source.

Chip conclude

All in all, the Toshiba SDW portable LED projector works like a charm, and is fairly easy to carry around with a proper bag. The 500 lumens lamp is bright enough to work in properly lit rooms, and the fact that it functions without the need of a computer is a big plus for it.
