All people, from the most serious to a
Netflix maniac, want to raise iPad sometimes. A specialized tablet stand, like
Incipio’s Fixie, offers a better stability than Smart Cover but it must be
warned you may encounter some difficulties at first.
Fixie
– light weight, sturdy and wonderful
Fixie is made of aircraft-grade aluminum
which is a fancy way of saying it is sturdy and lightweight. Fixie comes in 2
parts: one main arc part and another that is slid into either side of the main
part to set orientation. This sounds quite confusing and it really does. I was
sometimes not sure about what I was doing and it took me a while to figure out
unless there was no instruction guide. Fortunately, once you understand, the
stand works as advertised.
You can put Fixie in 4 ways: 2 upward angles
for watching films or presenting slideshows and 2 low angles for typing or
scrolling. Typing mode is quite comfortable and efficient, regardless the
inconvenience of typing on a touchscreen, and viewing mode works well when your
iPad is propped up on desk, bed or plane’s table tray.
However, Fixie sometimes feels fragile. Rubber
grips on main part’s frame are easily to be pulled off by a little of tugging,
exposing the glue beneath. And the curved shape makes it hard being travelled –
when my bag is full of iPad and laptop, Fixie is the last thing that I try to
stuff in to.
Key features
Fixie is well known for its great design
featuring 179g weight and 4 viewing angles. It charges only 1/3 as much as my
foldable stand, Rokstand ($119, www.rokform.com). I
wish I could be more user-friendly and compact for easily being carried out.
