Get fit with your favorite music

Jumping on the sport earphones bandwagon, Klipsch recently launched the new Image A5i earbuds, designed for those who like to get sweaty and physical more often than not. Sweat and hard knocks aren’t very good friends with electronics, thus such earbuds have to be both hardy and waterproof.

As is standard with sports earphones, the A5i offers an around the ear wearing style, ensuring that they stay in place even with vigorous movement. We particularly like how the earbuds stay on with bendable “arms,” letting users adjust how deep they sit inside their ear canals. We were able to get great noise isolation by pushing the buds in, which seems perfect for safer, indoor environments. A looser fit allows for a moderate level of ambient noise to seep through, which would be extremely helpful if you are running or cycling outdoors. The earbuds themselves are quite light, and combined with the around-the-ear wearing style; one can keep them on for long periods without fatigue. To provide additional anchoring, the in-line three-button control pod comes with a clip attachment, letting you pin the cables down on your collar or sleeve.

Klipsch fits the A5i with 6.5mm drivers, which are admittedly a lot smaller than the typical 8-12mm drivers that most other earbuds come with. In terms of audio quality though, we were surprised with the bass delivered by the A5i. Deep and defined to a good degree, the low notes had good impact. On the percussion-heavy “Tessellate” by Alt-J, the A5i displayed a decent transient response, showcasing a variety of sounds with a good level of detail. However, when compared with other Klipsch earphones such as the S4i II, the A5i seems to lack the warmth of tone which makes the former earphones formidable when handling pop tunes.

Klipsch also constructed the A5i with Kevlar, which ensures that the wires can take some punishment, yet won’t tangle.

In the box, the A5i comes with a protective carrying case, as well as four different sized ear tips. Of course, as indicated by the product model designation, the A5i is made to work with all mobile Apple devices with the in-line controls letting you handle both music and phone calls with ease.

Overall, the A5i certainly impresses, delivering good sound especially in the low frequency department to make sure the beat and tempo shine through. The A5i also offers one of the best fits we’ve experienced for sports headphones. They’re a bit pricey, but certainly get the job done.
