The telephoto lens for Samsung NX cameras
provides a viewing angle lens that is equivalent to the 70mm one on a 35mm
camera. It plays with a fast aperture of maximum f/1.8 and costs $354.

Processing and functionality
The lens barrel is structured from
high-quality plastic and the lens mount is made of metal. The lens is completed
with a sleek finish and a blue metal ring between the lens body and the focus
ring. Weighing just 115g and measuring only 44.5mm long, it creates a
lightweight and reasonable combination with Samsung’s NX20 camera body used to
test.
Focus is done inside and the 43mm
non-rotating filter will be ideal for use with polarizing and graduated filters.
Autofocus is fast and accurate enough to be confident in using the maximum
aperture. With manual focus mode, the screen always magnifies the center of the
image, which makes ti easier to get precise adjustments. This lens supports Samsung‘s
i-Function functionality, allowing manual control to be quickly logged in via a
button on the lens itself.
The approximately 45cm macro focus is not
too close for a lens of this focal length, which limits its ability to capture
full frame images of smaller objects.

Performance
The sharpness at maximum aperture was
prominent in the frame and decreasing the aperture between f/2.8 and f/4 led to
a sharp increase for next frame edge.

Instructions
on reading the chart
The blue column represents the center of
the frame read from the varied aperture and the green column is from the frame
edge. Their average per capita is expressed in the red column.
The ruler on the left side is the real
image resolution parameter. The higher the column is, the higher performance
lenses will be. It's simple.
For this article, the lens was tested on a
Samsung NX20 using Imatest.
Only a slight trace of chromatic
aberrations was indicated by Imatest in the test. The lower border will hardly
be found in conventional photography, even in close inspection.
Chromatic
aberration at 45mm
Chromatic aberration happens when the lens
is not able to focus all colors of visible light at the same point on the sensor
or the film. Many chromatic aberrations render a noticeable fringing or halo
effect around the contours of the image. It can be removed by software.
Apochromatic lenses have special lens parts
(aspheric, ultra-low dispersion...) in order to minimize the problems, so they
are usually more expensive.
For this article, the lens was tested on a
Samsung camera using NX20.
Reduce lighting in the corners is very well
controlled for a lens with a wide aperture angle of only 0.5 darker than the
image center at f/1.8. Lowering down to f/2.8 or more leads to intuitive
illuminated uniform.
A small amount of central deformation
pressure is shown in this image captured by the lens. Imatest detected 0.589% central
deformation, even across the frame, so it would be easily fixed in any editing
software later if necessary.
A deep circular lens cap is provided with
this lens as standard, which did a good job of shading the lens before mixed
light which can cause loss of contrast. Good contrast was maintained when
shooting in bright light.

Values
Considering the performance of this lens,
the starting price of about $354 seems very reasonable. Because there is no
third party manufacturers to produce lenses for the NX system, SAMSUNG is exclusively
compatible with lenses on their cameras.
Conclusion
Samsung has created a lens that delivers
outstanding sharpness at maximum aperture, the inferior border, reduction and
low distortion. It is also as nearly perfect as possible, especially with the
price at about $354. This lens should make a great addition to any public Samsung
NX, and fast maximum aperture would be an added bonus for shooting in low
light, or separate your subject from the background.
