Either fast or big, it is ideal if
you want an increase in SSD style with a tight budget.
Flash memory’s fall in price made SSD
cheaper and cheaper. Cache drives become even cheaper as they use less flash
memory to improve performance in systems using hard drives. They use caching
software which learns computing habits and your favorite programs then saves
important files for faster access.
Sandisk
Readycache 32GB
Once ReadyCache is installed into PC, it’s
easy to use. Download ReadyCache software, install it then activate SSD with an
inbox code.
The software is quite simple, with a meter
informing usage of the 32GB capacity, an option to turn on/off caching and
another option to delete cache manually. This final option is very useful if
you fill your hard drive up or change the way you use your computer
considerably. By that way, PC can learn your new habits.
It is not the fastest SSD of the world but
it of course beats your hard drive. ReadyCache writes large file in a rate of 110MB/s
and reads them in a rate of 234MB/s more impressively though left far behind by
484MB/s and 409MB/s from Corsair Performance Pro drive that leads the segment. This
SSD narrows down the distance with Corsair in our small-file tests, write and
read rates were 86MB/s and 57MB/s respectively. Corsair drive completed similar
tests with 145MB/s (write) and 107MB/s (read).
It
is not the world’s fastest SSD but it will surely beat your drive.
Cache drives are often faster, according to
ages, but we found improvements in startup time after 3 restart. An Ivy-Bridge-based
system with Samsung SpinPoint F4 took 48sec to boot, but with ReadyCache
installed, it started in 35sec.
The drive comes with all you need,
including one 3½ inch to 2½ inch stand, necessary screws and even one SATA
cable, which is a rare inclusion even with Hi-End drives. ReadyCache costs only
$54 much cheaper than what you have to pay for a SSD, and half as expensive as what
you need to pay for a quite large drive.

The low price is almost unbelievable, but
we can only see ReadyCache handy for those use old systems. These machines,
with slow startup and aged drives, will benefit from the speed provided by this
quite modest drive. If you have a newer PC with faster processor and stronger
drive, we recommend you to use a large-sized SSD as a boot drive instead of this
temporary alternative.
