A full utility defragmentation is a bit too much for some users. If you are looking for an utility with basic, easy to understand functionality and simple UI, Magical Defrag 3 is quite appropriate. The simple interface, with only a few primary set up for Administration (Job Management), or create scheduled defrag tasks through a wizard. They include drive selection, order the program to ignore any file and in particular size, create conditions for the temporary suspension of duty (not run while using the battery, while printing, etc), set the duration of the task and set the start and end point. You can run any saved job at any time (not just follow its pre-set schedule), or you can select a drive manually and start the defragmentation process. By default, the program keeps track of the new fragmented and defragmented files while computer does not work and it's running installed, optional screensavers.

Do not look for the optimization features of Magical Defrag 3. You can not choose where the file layout on disk, or how to sort them. You also will not have the visual representation of the fragmented state or hard drive during the analysis period; what you all have is some words explain the results, and analysis itself seems to take forever on the large partitions. However, Magical Defrag 3 equipped interface with a simple, efficient and very few configuration options convenience. Adding an excellent contextual support system, low cost, and 40-day free trial period, you have a defragmenter that is worth a try.

In-process monitor of Smart Defrag 2.3 helps you to see what is happening easily

You should not expect a free defragmenter will provide expanding optimization capabilities. You are asking too much, but the feature list of IObit Smart Defrag is surprisingly good. It can defragment at boot time, the schedule work, and that defragmentation will stop automatically when the resource utilization ratio in excess of user-defined percentages. There is even an exclusion list that you can build for individual folders and files you want to skip while Smart Defrag analyzes and defrags the drive.

This utility provides 3 optimization profiles: Defrag Only, Defrag and Fast Optimize, and Defrag and Fully Optimize. The first does not move file, while laters focuse on the removal of empty space between them with varying degrees. No options to layout inside and outside slots, and no further details are provided in the help system of the product. We found that when available capacity of the drive is 80% or more, Defrag  and Fully Optimize did not do much, it's difficult to move and combine large files. (One of its options allows users to skip files that larger than 1GB, helps a lot in these cases). However, with 50% free disk space, this optimization strategy is extremely successful.

There are few reports in Smart Defrag that is worth monitoring. First, the program provides a list of fragmented files in disk partition, which can sort by file name, size, path and number of fragments. While you can not interact separately to defragment a specific file, it is useful in providing clues about some of the most accessed files on your drive regardless of size. Second, Smart Defrag offers a real-time chart in the CPU usage, disk activity and number of files defragmented automatically. Similarly, the tab Boot Time Defrag presents date, size, and the drives that are defragmented, and offers three check boxes allow you to select MFT defragment, page file and system file.

For a free program, Smart Defrag provides reliable ability, and you can not beat its price.
