So. Much. Metal.

Yep, this laptop could give a lot of creepy, loud rock bands a run for their money. The Sony Vaio T11 isn't a very large laptop in terms of size, but pick it up and it feels like someone took the door off an Alto and forced you to surf the internet on it. Okay, we might be exaggerating a little bit, but it's still heavier than your average netbook despite being small. There's also a shiny chrome-plated strip on the rear, which doesn't actually do anything, but you have to admit it looks pretty neat.

Wait, 11 inches? Are you trying to sell me a netbook for 50 grand?

Okay, the screen is a bit on the tiny side, but rest assured this is no netbook. Proof of that is the fact that there's a Core i5 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, a 32GB solid state drive, over and above a 500GB SATA hard drive. There are also two USB inputs including a charge-capable port, as well as VGA and HDMI outputs. There's no optical drive though, so let's just call this one an ultrabook, although it is smaller than your typical ultrabook and weighs a bit more. Great, now we're confused too.

As if phablets weren’t bad enough, now you’re talking about ‘ultranets’.

Don't make it sound like the latest in commercial fishing technology now; it isn't really that confusing. Some people love the size and portability of netbooks but can't deal with the lack of power. That's what brought about the concept of ultrabooks. Sony have gone a step further and brought bling and solidity into the equation, while reducing size to near-netbook dimensions. Basically, if Sony succeeds, we're looking at a new category in laptops, appropriately designated by you as the Ultranet.
