The all-new BB10 operating system has
enough to let blackberry take on the completion
The original smartphone giant, Research in
Motion’s fortunes changed drastically with the launch of Apple’s iPhone and
Google’s Android operating system. For a few years, RIM has been playing catch
up, but improved versions of its operating system were still unable to satiate
the demands of customers who were spoilt for choice. With BB7 being termed a
disaster, the company took a leaf out of Microsoft’s book and developed an
operating from scratch. We take a look at the BlackBerry 10 operating system
and the first wave of devices unveiled late January.

Blackberry 10
The BB10 is a fresh take and hardly resembles
the earlier versions of operating systems from BlackBerry. It has a
gesture-based interface that will support, learn and adapt the way you work.
BlackBerry Hub
A single location to manage all
conversations, email, BBM messages, social media updates and notifications,
users can “peek” into the BlackBerry Hub from anywhere. You’re always only one
swipe away from what matters to you.
BlackBerry Flow
BB10 enables features and apps to flow
seamlessly together, helping you complete the task at hand effortlessly and
efficiently. For example, you can tap on a participant in a meeting to see
their latest tweet or Linkedln profile.
Meanwhile, the keyboard understands and
adapts to you, learning what words you use and how you use them then offering
them to you so that you can type faster and more accurately.
BlackBerry Balance
This new addition elegantly separates and
secures enterprise applications and data from personal content on BlackBerry
devices.
Time Shift & Story Maker The former is
an innovative camera feature that lets you capture a group shot where everyone
is smiling with their eyes wide open. The latter lets you bring a collection of
photos and videos together, along with music and effects, to produce an HD
movie that you can instantly share.
BlackBerry 10 Browser
The new browser, which sets the industry
benchmark for HTML5 support on smartphones, is incredibly fast. Scrolling or
zooming is fluid and responsive. The browser includes many advanced features,
supports multiple tabs, lets you browse sites privately, includes a reader
mode, and integrates with the platform for easy sharing of content.

BlackBerry Remember
This combines memos, tasks and much more
into a single experience. It helps you organize and manage information you have
on your smartphone around projects or ideas, letting you collect content such
as websites, emails, photos, documents, and other files, and then like a to-do
list it lets you create tasks, assign due dates, and track your progress. If
your BlackBerry 10 smartphone is set up with a work account, your Microsoft
Outlook Tasks will automatically be wirelessly synced with BlackBerry Remember.
BlackBerry Safeguard Technology
This helps protect what is important to
you, and the company you work for.
Apps
The company claims there are over 70,000
apps for BB10. If the launch was any indication, this will include many of the
top 100 apps on iOS and Android.
The devices
The BB10 operating system will initially be
available on two new smartphones. The Z10 and the Q10. While one of these
phones aims to compete with the flagship all-touch smartphones from Apple,
Samsung and Nokia, the other will have the company's popular QWERTY keypad.

Blackberry Q10
The smartphone that is likely to be much
more popular than the Z10 is the Q10 - a touch and type device. The BlackBerry
Q10 will have a 3.1 inch touch display with 720x720p resolution and a QWERTY
keypad (keypad looks similar to the one on the BB9900). It will have a Tl
OMAP1.5GHz dual-core processor along with 2GB RAM. Wi-Fi; Assisted, Autonomous,
and Simultaneous GPS; NFC; microUSB; microHDMI-Out and Bluetooth 4.0 are some
of the connectivity features onboard. The back of the Q10 has been crafted of
glass-weave material, which the company claims is exclusive to the Q10.
The BBZ10 is likely to be launched in India
by the last week of February 2013 while the Q10 will be available globally only
in April 2013.
Blackberry zip
The BB Z10 is a complete touch device with
a 4.2-inch capacitive display. It is powered by Qualcomm's MSM8960 Snapdragon
Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor paired with 2GB RAM.
There will also be a 16GB onboard storage
along with an expandable memory of up to 32 GB. The 8MP camera onboard draws
benefits from the Time Shift feature of the operating system.
