3/3/2013 9:24:57 AM

As the Windows RT operating system has just been released, so many apps hasn’t work stably, users have to access Windows Update feature to update the OS patches. Besides, all the aps in Store must be updated again so that the tablet’s apps can be used effectively, such as the Led Flash supported shooting function if not updated from Store, the flash won’t self-activate when opening the device for the first time.

Maps feature of Windows RT works pretty stably, making accurate guide of roads for center locations, famous places but can’t navigate for any location on a random road because the map still lacks data.

As the Windows RT operating system has just been released, so many apps hasn’t work stably, users have to access Windows Update feature to update the OS patches.

As the Windows RT operating system has just been released, so many apps hasn’t work stably, users have to access Windows Update feature to update the OS patches.

Besides, the available apps of Windows RT, the device has Asus’s own apps including Asus Camera (enhance the imaging capability), Super Note 3.0 (compose note quickly by writing, drawing directly onto the screen), Kindle (join Amazon’s reading library), Asus Web storage (cloud storage with 32-GB capacity in 3 years), My Dictionary.

The device’s feature of using 3G SIM runs well, the OS receives the full pack of the network providers. However, when inserting the SIM, the device requires to be rebooted then it can use 3G data transfer. Testing 3G network speed with Speed test when downloading, it reaches up to 8.66 Mb/second, data updating reaches 0.93 Mb/second. With this speed, it’s enough for the users to comfortably browse web, access social network or watch movies through Youtube without being afraid of stutters.

The office apps run stably, not have many obstacles because the interface design doesn’t change much. Besides, the tablet also has Remote Desktop app, letting the user having remote access to the tablet through network connections. With this tool, users can connect to the tablet running Windows 7 to copy the data or transfer the data back and forth.

A shortcoming of Windows RT is the traditional apps in.exe format, which are unable to have compatible activity, so it’s hard for the users to install extra new features for the tablet. For example, adding RAR standard extract, professionally image processing software or installing Yahoo Messenger.

However, the thing needs to admit here is the new stage of development of Windows RT so some apps is in rudimentary form, as to RAR extract in Store, there are some companies allow to install some corresponding apps but the low compatibility still has faults. Even on Store, there are apps allowing watching HD 720p movies.

Camera

Image default camera along with available apps of Windows RT has good autofocus support, but the image-captured quality is only at average level, in lowlight condition the images still has noise, especially it’s impossible to focus the images if light is much lacked. In addition, the flash of the tablet is pretty bright, if positioned face-to-face, it can create “light burn” area which can change the colors of the subject. Users should take pictures with Asus Camera rather than use the Camera built-in app of the OS because many shooting features has additional improvement, the quality of the shot is better bit stability hasn’t reach the line, when taking photo, the stuttering phenomenon happens, the tablets sometimes focus slowly.

Performance

As the device us quad-core processor, 2GB RAM so the operations of opening the apps have no obstacle. We perform a measurement in the web browsing supporting ability with HTML of WebVizBench, the device reaches 3.100 point, in correlation with a PC computer using Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

With other processing operations such as opening a series of programs, many app windows or playing music, running the high-grade 3D entertaining apps available in Store, the CPU’s processor only works at the power level from 15 to 20%, the spreading heat is enough to warm your palm.

Specifically, with Speed Test Pro measurement, CPU reaches the ability of quad-core processing concurrently is 104 MB/second, RAM reaches 58 MB/second and with the test of 3D Relative Benchmark graphics measurement, the device reaches 11 fps. At that test, Disk Benchmark of the device reaches the data reading speeds in turn are 52.66 MB/second, 20.54 MB/second for recording and 16.47 MB/second for copying.

Battery

The device’s battery is enough to meet users who use continuously from morning to evening if they use the automatically screen brightness adjustment function. We let the device browse web, listen to music, and the screen brightness at 50%, using time reaches about 7 hours. In another case when watching HD 720 movies and setting at continuously watching mode, speaker volume at 100%, screen brightness at 100%, the device reaches 5 hours 20 minutes. When attaching extra base and testing again with the above operations, using time increases from 2 to 4 hours of using.

In general, the tablet is useful to work and entertain at the same time. However, the development of the apps has many obstacles so the product can’t meet the expectation of many people. Besides, the price level of 785 USD of the product is considered to be too high if compared with an iPad having more uses.
