Joining the 5-inch league
Lenovo has been acquiring a fair share of
attention with its lineup of affordable Android smartphones that cater to a
wide demographic. The company started with its first Android-based smartphone
in the Philippines, the dual-SIM A60, marketed as an entry-level option. This
time, they have entered the 5-inch quad-core scene with its K860.

The device possesses a very minimalistic
design. It has a dominantly black color, accented with a strip of silver lining
running around the device. The face is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass, so
users wouldn’t need to worry too much about scratches.
The K860 is armed with aquad-core processor
clocked at 1.4GHz and runs on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich, which provides
really smooth navigation. Transitioning from one app to another is swift, and
is close to having no lags at all. Also, running multiple programs in the
background doesn’t affect the device’s performance. The K860 scored well in our
benchmark tests, racking up 5054 points in Quadrant. It even surpassed the LG
Optimus Vu’s 4627, while tailing just a little bit behind the Samsung Galaxy S
III’s score of 5260.

When it comes to imaging capabilities, the
K860 delivers quite well. The interface of the camera’s application has a
normal and advanced mode, with the latter giving more experienced users the
freedom to adjust the ISO, exposure, and white balance manually. Shooting modes
include HDR, panorama, and macro, as well as smile detection. In our testing,
its 8-megapixel camera took some pretty impressive shots. Partner that with the
device’s 5-inch display, carrying a pixel density of 294ppi (sitting closely
behind the Samsung Galaxy S III’s 306ppi), and you get visually stimulating
photographs to view directly on the phone.
The K860 records HD videos with a maximum
resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Unwanted noise is apparent, especially at
night, but image quality is still decent when in proper lighting. Whether on
paper or in real life handling, our device proved to deliver very well.
Battery-wise, our device lasted for 568 minutes of continuous video-playing,
which is good for its class.

Even though it doesn’t possess a “bling
factor,” it still appears unique with its sleek look. Our only gripe would be
that it was somewhat heavy at 193.5 grams, although in return, it adds a more
solid feel to the overall build. With an SRP of PhP 19,999, it has all the
technical specifications needed for a fluid, user friendly operation, while
staying competitively priced.
