Bigger is certainly better.
The Butterfly takes on a vastly different
design language by encasing itself in a plastic chassis, instead of the
signature polycarbonate uni-body construction found in the One X+. We feel that
polycarbonate could have been a better choice given its fine balance of
durability, looks and weight. Nonetheless, the Butterfly is still a very
well-built device.
Due to its slightly tapered back, the
Butterfly sits comfortably in our hands. The sides of the device sport
perforated metal strips, which look like speakers. They are in fact, inspired
from sports car design, and are more aesthetic than functional.

In terms of usability, there is some room
for improvement. The Power button is located at the top middle section of the
phone, making it inconvenient for small hands to access.
Another annoying issue is the plastic cover
on the micro USB port. As it is difficult to remove, charging and transfer of
data becomes troublesome.
On the plus side, a secondary notification
light on the back helps alert users of incoming calls and waiting messages.
Like the One X+, the Butterfly runs on
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software, as well as HTC’s Sense 4+ suite. Powered by a
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM, the Butterfly
breezed through our benchmarks without a hint of stutter. Its speed and agility
certainly give the impression that the Butterfly is by far the speediest HTC
smartphone we’ve handled.

Quad Core Processor
The main highlight of the Butterfly is its
stunning 5-inch Super LCD 3 display. It blew our minds away with its clarity
and accurate color reproduction.
HTC includes a microSD card slot on the
Butterfly, a feature sorely missing on a number of their past flagship devices.
On top of that, you also enjoy two years’ worth of free 25GB Dropbox cloud
storage.
Its 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0
aperture, 28mm lens and BSI sensor takes great quality images.

On the Butterfly is a 2020mAh battery, able
to power the device through a normal day of usage. To extend battery mileage,
you can enable the Power Saver mode.

We highly recommend the HTC Butterfly for
its great design, solid build quality, stunning 5-inch display and good overall
performance, and at a reasonable asking price of $928. Our only gripe with the
Butterfly is the lack of 4G LTE connectivity; hopefully that will be rectified
by HTC sooner than later.
