Design

Both iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4 don’t have many changes in terms of design compared to the predecessors. However, the indisputable advantages of the latter are that it’s thinner and lighter even though the screen size is increased. Obviously, Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 has done this thing very well and make their rivals such as HTC One, Nokia Lumia 920 or LG Optimus G Pro has to respect.

Meanwhile, if comparing only the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 internally, the Apple’s smartphone shows its preeminent luxury. Obviously, the aluminum-cover design helps to deliver more luxurious feeling than the plastic design from Galaxy S4. The metal edges of iPhone 5 are made sophisticatedly and sharply, and the bezels are almost perfectly, accurately sharpened.

Visually, iPhone 5 is obviously higher-evaluated. However, the aluminum cover of smartphone is easier to be scratched than the plastic cover on Galaxy S4. Meanwhile, S4 gets more points for the super small screen edges; the front of the device almost has little excessive space.  iPhone 5 has the plenty of edges on the top and the bottom of the screen that make the device somewhat lengthens.

But the rear of iPhone 5 is flawlessly designed; when putting nearby the glossy plastic case of Galaxy S4 somewhat becomes “commonplace”. On the other hand, the way of arranging an designing the group of rear cameras and LED flash of iPhone 5 is also very sophisticated, delicate and harmonious.

When watching the edges, it’s visible that the iPhone is processed more accurately and meticulously than the metal bezel of S4. However, because the phone of Samsung is beveled at 4 edges, it feels that iPhone 5 is thicker than S4 (though in fact, iPhone 5 is 7.6-mm thick and Galaxy S4 is 7.9-mm thick, oppositely).

When holding in hands, weight is not a big problem of these two smartphones. However, due to possessing a larger screen so the 1-hand operations on S4 are not truly as comfortable as the rival. In return for that, thanks to the nice bezel, when holding S4, it feels pretty sturdy, while the iPhone 5 owns the quite sharp edges, so when resting upon the palms, it’s somewhat bulging.

Screen

Apple has increased the screen size on iPhone 5 to 4 inches, resolution is 640x1,136 pixels but this size is still pretty small compared to the 5-inch screen of Galaxy S4. Besides, the pixel density of iPhone 5 is only 326 ppi, much lower than of the Full HD screen with the pixel density of up to 441 ppi from S4. But that’s only on theory, and at the normal distance when using, human eyes can’t distinguish the resolution above 300 ppi.

Both smartphones provide a detailed screen, sleek lines that look eye-catching.

This makes the iPhone 5 screen seem a bit inferior to Galaxy S4. Because of the Super AMOLED screen tech on Galaxy S4, now, there’s a significant step forward. The screen shows the striking colors, high brightness, low screen reflection. Thus, when observing indoors or under sunlight, Galaxy S4 delivers excellent display ability.
