Performance and battery life
The new software usually comes with a new
hardware and the appearance of dual cores on Windows Phone. Lumia 920 packs a
Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz processor, which means it is more than capable of surfing
through the the transition, the rich content website and currently available
games. We checked the phone on WPBench and AnTuTu, two Windows Phone 7
benchmarking apps that are not adjusted to the newest version. However, the
results are similar to HTC 8X’s and other impressive SunSpider score is
confirmed in our real-life experience with the phone; the device can display the
desktop versions of websites which is also very suitable for a big screen

It is also worth
noting that Lumia 920 has bigger screen and higher resolution than HTC’s
device, which means that inside components must be heavier. At least, its
battery is much bigger, with 2000mAh, and in WPBench’s CPU-taxing battery life
(based on Windows Phone 7), it reached 2:36, which is more than 8X. In typical
use, a normal using day can be satisfied, although we think using too much
outdoors (in which the Lumia 920’s screen is brighter) caused considerably
impact on the battery life. The use of Lumia 920’s contactless charger is a
little slow, but that is all you have to pay to have the convenience. We are
happy when seeing the charging ability appearance without any bulky shell that
ruins the phone’s design.
Conclusion
Perhaps,
Nokia has offered the best hardware for the newest version of Windows Phone.
Perhaps, Nokia has offered the best
hardware for the newest version of Windows Phone. Does it live up on the same
success? Yes, but it ties with HTC 8X for that honor. Lumia 920 feels notable
chunky, regardless of the similar specification in dimension, but it is still a
great hardware unit from Nokia. The large case sets enough space for the newest
PureView camera, which provides exceptional low-light performance and the
efficient optical stabilization for images and videos. While these features
work as fine as what we expected, full-light images are not that clear and
detailed that we always found during the first tests. In general, the results
were a little too smoothed (many smartphones tend to over-sharpen) and did not
meet our requirement for the newest PureView phone from Nokia.
All images captured at night which are
unbelievably wonderful would be slightly affected by the disappointing SkyDrive
and the limited ways of sharing – which Microsoft’s mobile OS has to process if
they want to be the third choice in smartphone’s OS market. Meanwhile, besides
the photography enhancement, Nokia improves the screen hardware, defeating
outdoors viewing of Lumia 900 and together with color changes and contrast from
a new ambient light sensor on a capacitive touchscreen that you can manipulate
with gloves. Nokia can be crowned as the newest smartphone developer, and alongside
the wireless charging ability, there are still many things to prove it. However,
for everything that Windows Phone 8 has done right (superb map, fast browser,
simplicity), holes in application selection remain things that need to be
filled.
