First impressions
Samsung aimed towards creating a phone
aiming at the $360 category with specs that would be a mixture of Samsung
Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 and thus Galaxy Grand was born!
Purely on appearance, Samsung Galaxy Grand
is an amazing phone. But when you switch it on, you are in for a shock. Since,
it has a 5-inch screen and a shockingly low WVGA resolution, the pixels indeed
get stretched. The regular built-in widgets are fun to kill time with. The TFT
capacitive touchscreen is quite responsive and works without any complains. The
8 megapixel camera was a big letdown too. The plastic body will almost make you
feel as if the phone will slip out of your hands any moment.

Review
The phone fits perfectly in the palms of
your hands. For a 5-inch phone, it is slim and not too bulky. Upon benchmark
tests, we learnt that purely on its specs like 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9
CPU, Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU and 1GB of RAM it does not get high ratings. It
continues to be a device rated below the Asus Transformer Prime. What is good
about this phone is the functionality it offers. Whatever you expect from a
good Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Grand offers it with ease.

Thanks to the Android Jellybean operating
system, you will not experience any issues when it comes to playing games or
using any other apps. The battery life of the phone is good too. A fully
charged phone offered 7 hours of web browsing. We did not experience any
problems with the dual SIM functions or while making and receiving calls. The
TouchWiz launcher is a great addition to the device. The multi-window feature
too makes life very easy when you use the phone.
Looking at the multimedia functionality of
the phone, the audio quality that the phone offers is good. The video player on
the Grand features Pop up play - it moves the video in a small floating window
and you can use other apps on the phone with the video on. This is indeed a
great feature.
When a phone boasts of an 8 megapixel
camera, you expect something better. Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Grand
will disappoint you in this one. Both indoors and outdoors, the picture quality
offered was as good as a mediocre camera. The primary camera works just about
okay!

Verdict
Samsung Galaxy Grand offers great utility
in the $360 segment. It without a doubt is one of the best phones available
today! It functions smooth, barely lags and in spite of possessing a dual core
processor it offers performance better than some quad core phones. Yes, the
screen resolution is indeed low and the camera quality is quite average but the
utility this phone offers kind of overlooks these. In short, there are more
Pro's and less Con's to the phone.
