Logitech Keyboard Folio for iPad Mini

iPad mini keyboard

This Bluetooth-connected keyboard case works exclusively with Apple's iPad mini, though a larger version is available for the full-sized iPad with Retina Display.

The keyboard runs on its own internal battery, which is rechargeable from any USB port or charger via an included Micro USB cable. It's got a QWERTY-based 60-key layout, including a dedicated 'Home' button and iOS-specific shortcuts accessible via a 'fn' modifier key.

Despite the mini's small size, the keys are well separated. Keystrokes have good travel and a clear 'click' feeling, but still sound quiet. The case provides the best typing experience I've had on any similarly sized tablet.

A hard-backed rubber frame holds the iPad mini securely in place, and the folio is held closed by strong magnets. Magnets also hold the iPad upright while typing, and I never had the arrangement collapse or fall from my lap as I've experienced with similar setups. When closed, the case provides great protection for the iPad within.

Sounds perfect, right? Not quite. The combination of that thick rubber shell and plastic keyboard make the case 25mm thick, and 395 grams in weight. Together, the Folio and iPad weigh over 700 grams - that's over double the weight of the iPad Mini alone, and 50 grams more than a 10-inch iPad Retina.

If you want a good typing experience on the iPad mini above all else, I do recommend the Keyboard Folio mini. If you chose the iPad mini specifically for its light weight and small size? Avoid.
