Has your device ever run out of storage? Here are some tips for you to have more free space.

To exploit the new iPad’s 2048x1536 pixel screen, apps need new graphic firmware. This means files take up more space on even previous iOS devices. Thus, your iPhone or 16GB iPad will soon start to warn it is running out of storage.

Here are some tips to free more space on your device which is full of data and apps.

Get along with iTunes Match

If you have a great music collection and agree to spend $33 per year, you should consider of registering an iTunes Match account. With this service, Apple stores your music in iCloud so your whole music library will appear on iOS devices when no space is occupied. Once registering iTunes on Mac, you can remove music from the iOS device anytime when you need more free space.

Get rid of some apps

When removing apps, you must focus on apps that have been used least regularly and those occupying most space. Go to Setting > General > Usage to see apps shorted by size. Garage Band and iMove have taken up more than 1GB of storage for each one. If you had never deleted them, it’s time for you to remove them. (Remember that you can install them again from Appstore later). Besides, you can remove an app from Usage’s screen just by typing its name then clicking “Delete App” button.

Video also takes up a lot of capacity. While you cannot remove video player, you should delete separate movies that were saved. If you had synchronized movies for a long time and there was no need for them, let’s remove them.

Image management

Videos and photos that are captured by your iOS device and specially those created by latest camera (with lots of enhancement) would take up enormous space, similar to apps. It’s a good idea to back up these photos and videos then erase them from your iOS device. You can either upload images via Photo Stream or connect your iOS device directly to Mac and import files by this way. iPhoto will suggest removing imported photos/videos. Another way to get rid of image quickly is done by Image Capture.

Adjusting configurations could save you more space. Third-party camera apps, such as free Instagram (instafram.com) and Camera+ (69p, campl.us), provide users with many options for storing your images – only either in apps or in Camera Roll. Furthermore, Instagram and other apps allow you to decide to save the original image, the processed one, both of them or either of them.
