Accutone is better known for producing audio
products for commercial purposes, such as headphones for call centers. With the
Pisces Band however, they are moving into the consumers exclusively available
in Singapore and the Philippines.
Manufactured out of plastic with a glossy
finish, the headphones have sliver highlights, making its aesthetics par for
the course. Accutone must be commended for the solid feel of their product
though. Sturdy hinges can be found on both sides of the headbands, to anable
folding of the device for stowing away during travel. An Apple-certified
in-line 3-button digital remote control with omni-directional microphone is
also included for use with your iPhone.
Accutone
Pisces Band Headphones
The Pisces Band is designed for on-ear
wearing. The earcups are a little smaller than what we’re used to, and fit
wasn’t good either. These headphones tended to clamp rather tight around the
head. Despite the cushioning, though plush and soft, the headphones never found
a stable spot to rest on the sides of our head.
In our listening tests, the Pisces Band
performed decently. Highs were clear, though not sparkling, on Melt My Heart To
Stone by Adele. Similarly, on Hotel California by The Eagles, the guitar parts
were represented with workmanlike efficiency. However, the headphones seemed to
deliver muffled and muddy mids. The piano and organ pieces on the Adele track
hardly made their presence felt, which made the overall rendering sound
somewhat lacking.
On
the whole, while trebles and bass were handled well, weal mids meant that the
audio mix wasn’t done proper justice.
Bass performance of the Accutone headphones
was surprisingly meaty. Sufficient definition for the lower notes was observed
on Tiesto’s Elements of Life without sacrificing any impact. But once again,
weak mids let the Pisces Band down, and the overall delivery of the song felt
slightly disjointed. On the whole, while trebles and bass were handled well,
weal mids meant that the audio mix wasn’t done proper justice.
However, when t comes to handling phone
calls, the same weak mids somehow act in the product’s favor. Dialogue can be
clearly heard with little interference from ambient noise, which means that the
microphone deserves some kudos as well.
