Serif’s PhotoPlus X6

Serif has unveiled its latest version of PhotoPlus, which has been certified by Microsoft to be compatible with Windows 8.

PhotoPlus X6 includes the new ‘smart edge refinement’ tool, which enables users to quickly select and adjust intricate parts of photos.

Users can take advantage of the software’s new 64-bit engine. Using all the available memory of computers with a 64-bit operating system, the program now enables users to edit and enhance very large images without the risk of slowing down. Multi-threading technology also utilises all the cores on a modern computer’s processor, making PhotoPlus X6 the fastest version yet.

Other new features include ‘non-destructive crop’, which saves all image data so photos can be restored and re-cropped again without losing other edits that have been applied.

Photographers can also control blur and saturation to create miniature tilt shift effects in the new ‘depth-of-field’ filter. In addition, the program also includes new vector masks and fill layers tools.

PhotoPlus X6 has an RRP of $107 and is available from Serif.

As well as this, Dynamode has launched the USB3-HD2.5-S1B, designed for 2.5-inch SATA hard disks used in notebook and desktops.

Powered by USB, this disk enclosure also features high-speed USB 3.0 for quick data transfer.

StartTech has released a new USB 3.0 adapter, enabling users to connect to a Gigabit Ethernet network from a USB 3.0-enabled computer.

The adapter adds a single RJ45 gigabit Ethernet port, and with support for full SuperSpeed USB 3.0, provides greater bandwidth for your network connection.

“This latest addition to our wired networking family of products is ideal for users who need a convenient way to access high-speed Gigabit networks,” said Carey Cline, senior product manager for StarTech.com’s Networking I/O product line.

“Because the adapter uses a USB 3.0 host connection, users are able to take advantage of the convenience of USB without having to rely on an ExpressCard or PCI Express expansion slot. More importantly, they’ll also be able to achieve a much faster connection through the additional bandwidth offered by USB 3.0 technology, as opposed to earlier USB 2.0-based network adapters which were limited by outdated host bus speed capability.”

Other features include Jumbo Frame support, Windows and Mac drivers, backwards compatibilities with USB 2.0, and a dongle-style connection to help reduce clutter and spacing issues.

StartTech’s USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter has an RRP of $59 and is distributed by Entatech, Ingram Micro and Micro-P
